looooooool, enjoy your wasted hard drive space

well, I'm not accepting this, and it pisses me off too

aw sorry bro, totally read it wrong. Was pretty cream crackered earlier.

  • Anybody have any of Stravinsky's string quartet compositions? He only wrote a few pieces, but I'd like to hear them. I'm willing to trade.

Also, any of Charles Ives's string quartets qould be awesome. I'm trying to track down string quartet compositions of all of my favorite composers.

I just thought of Benjamin Britten as well, so his string quartet pieces too. Any help, or do I have to spend real money?

  • Found a CD of Mahler's 8th Symphony among some long-forgotten impulse purchases, it was quite nice.

Can't slip you this one. Don't have it, and my library doesn't have it. The best I could do is a version with the original orchestration (harpsichord instead of harp) available on iTunes for $3.96. It sounds cool, and I would have bought it myself and passed it on (shucks, that's the kind of guy I am) but it's not iTunes Plus, i.e.: copy protection.

  • oh well. thanks anyway.

The most ruthlessly effective engine I know is http://rapidlibrary.com. If you type in the artist and the album name it'll usually come up with one or the other. Doesn't really work with classical, though.

Well since we're playing find stuff for people i've been looking for a decent version of this, don't particularly care who the conducter or orchestra is, just as long as it is on par or above the level of awesome following :

(Yes.. yes it is the Tetris theme)

I would seriously advise against using this. Rapidlibrary is powered by Zango, which has been the subject of numerous FTC complaints for having spyware and adware bundled with their products. I don't know if you got this, rm508, but most of the time, sites run by Zango force you to install their software to use them, and that software has all the sorts of bad stuff you don't want on your computer.

Hmm. That worries me. But I didn't install anything to use it (I never would) and as far as I was concerned it was a simple free-standing search engine. I'll have to look in to it.

  • Classicalheaven looks really good, but I can't find anything in it. I created an account which made me able to see some more files, but not "650 GB of classical music, ~3600 CDs," as their home page promises. And all the stuff I can find is either baroque or early romantic. You know, the boring stuff.

Yeah come on, give baroque a chance, tromb! Don't lump it in with the boring classical period!

  • Handel, Haydn, Vivaldi, Purcell, and Pachelbel have never impressed me. I'm sure there are some good baroque pieces, but I have yet to encounter them. I haven't really tried to find them, either. I have too many other genres that peak my interest much more.

More importantly, I have a fifty dollar gift card to Barnes and Noble, which can be used online. I wanna spend it on classical, so what should I get?

I never got excited about Handel, Haydn,Purcell or Pachelbel. But Vivaldi? Dude, his sacred, vocal music is great. So are cello concertos. Have you tried that?
