Amigo, that was the most supercrazy statement posted in the whole wide history of Internet. I appreciate good sense of humor, but someone not interested in this problem might take it seriously.

So I'd like to say only this. Isn't it a coincidence that all great German composers have in fact typical Polish names? Bachowski, Beethoveński, Orffowski, Schumannowski (often mistaken with Szymanowski, who is often mistaken with Szymański), Schubertowicz, Stockhausenowski, Telemannowski. Not to mention Weilowski and Wagnerowski, b/c those two are obvious.

  • you forgot Zorzynekowski

I just checked Erkki-Sven Tüür's Violin Concerto and it was cheesy but enjoyable. Aditus was complete Lutosławski rip off and Exodus was just annoying.
Am I just too picky or what?

Everyone knows the Estonians having been ripping off the Poles for years.

  • The Tuur that I listened to was good, but nothing too special. I did enjoy his Requiem, though. The other pieces were good, but not too impressionable. You did, of course reccomend him because of his electronic works, if I recall. I still have not been able to track those pieces down.

In other news, I am currently downloading some piano music by Milton Babbit and am also downloading Rothko Chapel by Feldman, a piece that I have been meaning to listen to for a really long time.

  • Oh, and I bought these three cd's two weeks back, and reccomend all three to you guys:

    Gyorgy Ligeti

    Krzysztof Penderecki

    Bela Bartok

Good choice. Wit's interpretation of triple cello concerto is even better than Penderecki's.

The Boulez Bartok series is sweet. I can't remember if I posted this one before, but I love it:

Sorry you folks didn't like the Tuur, I'll try for a higher quality recommendation next time.

  • Yeah, I got that Boulez album. Bought it used for three bucks. Same time I bought Rite of Spring for four handed piano. That's really cool, sounds so dense, with all of the parts played on one instrument.

You folks heard John Adams' El Niño? It's pretty great. I could pass it on on request.

EDIT: Thanks for the above post, Funio. I must have missed it.

Pass it, pass it, my friend.

  • Yo hit me up with that sum' bitch too. I'll be sure to pay it forward.

  • They have that at the library Connor, it's pretty all right.

  • Damn, our library is so good. I never remembered to go for a binge there over break. Not that I need even more music tbury myself under now. I am sooo behind on music right now, and am gonna probably get a shitload of music tonight at the radio station. FUUUUCKKKK! It hurts so gooooooooood!

  • Do you guys like go to the same school or something?

  • I think Cameron and I first met in fifth grade, Mr. Geist's class. So yes, we went to the same public schools, elementary through high. Good times.

The library Cameron brought up is our local public library, which has a great selection of classical CD's. You're allowed to check out ten at a time, and can keep them out for something insane like three weeks. Obviously we just burn them to our computers.

  • ahh ok. I used to take out music from the library and burn it as well. With the internet, I don't need to do that anymore, but using the library was definately more fun. My current local library also sucks.

  • The internet isn't all that great for classical. You can normally find a well-known piece on Soulseek, but you rarely know who's performing it ( and even then there are mutliple recordings by the same orchestra/conductor/soloist). Lesser-known or more modern compositions are much more difficult to find via the internet. Other than buying them legitimately, of course.

The library at the Sydney Conservatorium (which I didn't attend) had an amazing up-to-date collection, and you could borrow ten at a time. I sort of self-taught myself classical music there. If only I'd had a sexual experience in one of the aisles, then it truly would've been the place that taught me everything I needed to know about life.

You just need to look in the right places. And accept FLAC/APE format.

You can always convert. Download as FLAC, convert to mp3 or aac. You lose some quality but what the hell.

I used to burn my CDs at 256kbps (I thought that's what music purists should do) but converted them all back to 128 when my hard-drive started disappearing. When half hour records take up 100MB you know it's too much.

Thanks for sharing. Really good piece, but it could have been 30 minutes shorter.
