How 'bout them Broncos? It's the Elitists' Sports Thread!!!

  • How 'bout them Broncos? It's the Elitists' Sports Thread!!!

...in which I have absolutely nothing to say. Think of it as a little ghetto, where you can whack/carry/kick a ball around, and occasionally congratulate each other over other peoples' achievements.

  • That seems absurd for you to say, as you're quite clearly not from Denver.

(come to think of it, I don't think any of us are...)

  • Sorry Cat, but this is the sports thread, not the Tiresome Semantics thread. Why don't you start one up, and call it something irreverent like 'Cat's Tiresome Semantics Thread.'

Not a good start for the Sports Thread...

  • I knew you were going for alliteration, but I just found it funny for a Brit to be talking about American football. And sorry, I'm not so pathetic as to start a semantics thread—that's irrelevant, not irreverent.

So, do carry on about your various sporting activities...

  • Are you actually being ironic now? I meant irreverent, but if we're getting into semantics, we should probably repair to Cat's Tiresome Semantics Thread.

  • I shot a snot rocket 7 feet when I was 16.

  • I thought you didn't like sports.

That's good. Did you finish first in that competition?

  • Only doing them. And that was when
I was 16. On a serious note,I enjoyed fencing quite a bit in high school, but the friggin bowling team attracted bigger audiences then us.

  • EVERYONE IS POSTING ON THIS THREAD AT ONCE. THAT"S A COMPETITION

  • I was a fat kid with asthma way back when, hence my enduring disdain for team sports. I secretly want to play now though.

  • Oh! But I like watching (English) football on the telly. Isn't this thread fun?

  • It sounds like someone is jumping up and down in the apartment above mine. That's a bit sporty.

That was then, this is dumb.
  • I play 5-a-side football and support the mightily awesome Bradford City.

I think they're doing some other kind of sport...

  • :) no, it's not that noise

That was then, this is dumb.
  • I fucking love sport and I'm always a bit irrationally suspicious of anyone that doesn't.

  • Team sports are awesome and everyone should try them at least once (unless you're an uncoordinated loser)
Competitively, I played volleyball for six years, basketball for four, and track and field for four. I was tall as hell so I don't even know what it's like to be cut from a tryout. Must be gross.
I don't care about college sports at all but I do enjoy the L.A. Lakers and want to go to the World Cup in 2010.

  • Well, as long as it's irrational.

I love exercise and being active, just not when it involves other people, by and large. As for footie, I always know exactly what's going on in the Premiership, but I don't follow a team, and I hardly watch any games. Especially at the moment when I have to sit in the most godawful ex-pat pubs to catch a game. But I'll always watch England matches, wherever I am.

  • Must remember to add 'uncoordinated loser' to list of ways to describe myself

That was then, this is dumb.

    Lakers? Lame.

  • you guys see Lou Piniella won NL manager of the year? The fuck is that bullshit?! I didn't know getting swept in the NLDS after having the best record in baseball was a requirement for being manager of the year. Fuck the Cubs.

  • You Americans like shit sports. Because you're all cunts.

    I forgot my physics book.
