They're great, I thought that CD would suck but it surprised me. There's very few songs that are not completely catchy, and if you ignore all your prejudices towards disposable cliché Europop, you can have a damn awesome time listening to it. Sure, it's no masterpiece, but as far as 90s Europop goes, it's pretty amazing.

  • A bunch of Steely Dan albums.

  • I've made a shortlist (actually, it's a pretty fucking long list) of albums that I need to consider this time next year when making a list of my favourite albums from the decade, and I've got a random number generator going to decide what album I listen to next. So far I've listened to Turn On the Bright Lights and Return To Cookie Mountain and up next is Bang Bang Rock And Roll.

    I forgot my physics book.

I'll save you the time and you can go ahead and skip Bang Bang Rock and Roll.

I expected such a response, but fuck you. It's an awesome album.

    Me or Steely Dan?

  • Now it's mclusky Do Dallas. What a fucking great record, and fuck you guys that disagree with me (all of you).

    I forgot my physics book.
  • For anyone that cares, here are the albums I've listened to so far (all chosen randomly) and how I ranked them against each other:

    1. Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
    2. Belle and Sebastian - Dear Catastrophe Waitress
    3. LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver
    4. The Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots
    5. Yeasayer - All Hours Cymbals
    6. Mclusky - Mclusky Do Dallas
    7. The Strokes - Is This It?
    8. Art Brut - Bang Bang Rock And Roll
    9. Interpol - Turn On The Bright Lights
    10. TV On The Radio - Return to Cookie Mountain

EDIT: And so it's clear, I love all these records, and I've been changing the order every hour or so.

  • it's awesome that you're already working on it. that's a pretty nice order too. aside from interpol being on there. bleh.

i wonder how many lists will rank yankee hotel foxtrot as number one...
not that it would be there unjustifiably.

    love, music, wine and revolution

If listening Steely Dan makes one a pimp, I'm one too.

Turn on The Bright Lights is kind of a bipolar record for me. Most of the time I listen to it I get bored to tears, but sometimes it's just the best thing ever. I expect it to probably just make my top 50, but who knows, I'm constantly getting shocked by how awesome some of these albums that I haven't listened to for ages are.

  • Jukebox was pretty shoddy, but I don't really want to give up on her. It doesn't seem like anybody was particularly into the idea of her doing another covers record, but her fans are pretty forgiving.

Anyways, apart from the title track this seems nice enough.

It's #2 for me. So far, my list would go a-something like this:

    1. Destroyer—Streethawk: A Seduction
    2. Wilco—Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
    3. Arcade Fire—Funeral
    4. The New Pornographers—Mass Romantic
    5. The Decemberists—Picaresque
    6. Guillemots—Through The Windowpane
    7. Super Furry Animals—Rings Around The World
    8. Wolf Parade—At Mount Zoomer
    9. The Wrens—The Meadowlands
    10. The Hold Steady—Separation Sunday

    What about you, Danielle?

I admit I kinda liked that EP (it's decent), but I'm sick of those R&B-style covers. I want another Moon Pix :(.

It just lost the spot on my list, to The Moon and Antarctica. I don't know what the current elitist stance on Modest Mouse is, but motherfuck that album is still as amazing as it was when I first heard it.

i can't even finish my 2008 list. godfuckingdammit.

most likely it will also be my number two. my number one will be, unsurprisingly to all i'm sure, You Forgot It In People by Broken Social Scene.
    other than that... who knows.

  • You forgot it in people is an album that I always thought I should like, but I've never found it to be anything other than boring...

  • Zu - Carboniferous (2009)

My first proper 2009 album! (haven't got round to animal collective yet) sounds pretty boss so far, I must say.

  • The Fool Great psychedelic art-rock from Holland, The Fool were a Dutch design collective, responsible for a huge amount of artwork in the sixties: they created cover-art for The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, The Incredible String Band, The Hollies, Procol Harum, The Move and many other artists in the psychedelic scene.
