I'm probably somewhere between a libertarian and a South Park Republican. I'll just stay out of this argument....

There will always be a sort of class system and that is really what made America great in the first play. The thought that no matter who you were, if you tried hard enough you could move up into the middle class. Without that, people lose hope and become less efficient and lazy.

Yeah... I'd be hardpressed to say that a class system made America great. It can be attributed more to our economic freedom, vast resources, and work ethic. Sure, there are people moving up in social rank all the time - but it's not attributed to "Hey, being poor sucks, I want to be rich!" I think a more accurate description that most individuals, no matter the social class, are driven by profit and the desire to improve themselves.

  • If only Mike Gravel weren't always so angry.

That was then, this is dumb.

  • He has the look of persistence. And senility, too.

Libertarianism sounds really good when people talk about it, but if it was actually implemented the United States would be bought out by China and everyone would be fucked. It's not a practical form of government. Libertarians are the right-wing version of assholes with Che Guevara shirts.

    Che Guavara is a douche.

And i'm more leftist than rightist.

  • Mike Gravel is one of the single greatest men in the history of the world.

  • Government, when you look at it logically, is one of the weirdest systems in the last 6000 years or so.

That is so unusual for you.

  • I'd vote for CarsCat if she were running.

I disagree that because animals organize through a might-is-right system, it necessarily follows that it is the best system by which humans should organize, in fact history has rather shown that it is one that leads to tyranny, oppression, and rule by despots.

And for laissez-faire economists or those who will say that capital markets will provide perfect solutions by considering only half of Adam Smith's message would do well to consider Smith's other landmark work: The Theory of Moral Sentiments.

Ah, thanks! But alas, I'm 18 years off from eligibility. And I don't think I'd want to be in politics anyway—I hate being the center of attention. My aspiration is to become a journalist, so I can help bring down others' political careers instead of building one for myself. ;)

  • Dems biggest problem right now is they think Hillary = Bill, have they noticed she polls the worst of their field against the Repubs? Obama seems like the best of the frontrunners, but even he is becoming a soundbite.

The Neo-Con republican inability to balance personal freedom and national security could be considered comical if it hadn't turned deadly.

Nader's a turd, but nobody should ever feel like a vote is wasted. If you vote, you've done your duty. Kerry wasn't getting elected last time regardless.

Richardson and Huckabee would be the best election choices for us, but Richardson looks like my Uncle Jack after he tears through booze during family gatherings, and Huckabee has too much of the Lord in him.

Clinton- Romney is the nadir of American politics. If you think Bush is bad, elect either of them and your campus will be dedicating the GW Bush library for all his forward thinking and good works in 2009.

So? Adam Smith isn't the definitive voice on Capitalism.
