Driving blind is impossible in Germany, even if its just for a day. My suggestion is to take the metro, although it may be impossible to enjoy the silence with so many ambitious outsiders discussing their weapons of choice and a big fat woman backwashing her toast crumbs into her 30 gallon tank of soda. It's worth it, though. I mean, trips like this only happen once in a lifetime.

If you like Six Organs Of Admittance definitely listen to John Fahey if you haven't already.

  • 1 Billie Holiday 75
    2 Guided by Voices 33
    3 Kings of Leon 27
4 Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds 26
    5 Massive Attack 19
    6 Afghan Whigs 18
6 TV on the Radio 18
    8 Bert Jansch 15
    8 Pixies 15
    10 808 State 14

I've had a bit of a Bille Holidayfest this week and no doubt that will continue.

Guided By Voices seems to be unaturally high, which comes from having about 20 tracks on your album.
TV on the Radio can be thanked for me finding this group.

    9 The Beatles 14
    10 Alice Cooper 12

I get the abject hate most of you guys seem to have for Alice Cooper stemming from HairMetalAddict's love of him, but his earlier records are really quality stuff. There's a reason Zappa signed the man.

  • Early Alice Cooper is great - Billion Dollar Babies, top stuff.

  • yay pretty pink! Good week.

I've been listening to a fair amount of electronic, dance-y material this past week. This was sparked by coming across the advance of the Simian Mobile Disco album.

I'm rather dissapointed with the second Chromeo album. The new Trans AM seems quite sweet though, I've been listening to that a bit, although not on the computer. Thanks to smimarchie for the recommendation.

E.Moss is worth checking out if you like instrumental hip-hop-y affairs. A few of the tracks on the debut EP sound like early DJ Shadow.

4 The Clerks' Group [Incorrect tag for Ockeghem, early Renaissance composer) 11

    5 DJ Olive 10

    5 Tortoise 10

    5 Naked City 10

    5 The Album Leaf 10

    9 Carlos Gesualdo 8

I was feeling a little blue this past week so I listened to the Supremes box set and it made me happy. Yey for the Supremes and the Funk Brothers.

Edit: How'd you guys get those cool charts look? When I tried to enter the 'widgets' code it just looked like a code.

    1 Slowdive

I hadn't actually listened to them a lot before.. they wouldn't be this high on the charts but a friend and I went to sleep to them. Souvlaki Space Station is the best song i've heard in a while

    2 Venetian Snares

Once again it's Venetian Snares.. i'm hooked.

    3 Lykathea Aflame

Death metal.. with world influences.. I liked it

    4 Cynic

More death metal.. with (sorta) jazz influences.. one of the tracks was really good

    5 Arsis

More death metal.. Melodic death metal.. pretty annoying but a tight band

    6 Death

Even more death metal.. classic death metal.. Some good songs.

    6 Decapitated

More death metal.. I liked this one.

    8 Mithras

Even more more death metal.. More melodic death metal except this one was a lot better than Arsis.

    8 The Beta Band

    Love it

    10 Blind Lemon Jefferson

    Also love it.

All you need to do is change the ending to Mod6.gif, and then stick the ['img'] things either side of it. This week I saved it, and hosted it on photobucket though.. as it dawned on me that it'll change ALL my posts each time the server updates the weekly chart.

Sorry man, but Arsis kicks Mithras' ass quite heavily. Mithras pretty much just rips off Morbid Angel.

Nice call on the Cynic though. That's a great record.

1)Wilco - Sky Blue Sky and Summerteeth mostly, I think. I am so confused by Sky Blue Sky. Do I think its good...does it suck? I just can't decide. Its so confusing. Some of the tracks are really great, notably Either Way, Sky Blue Sky, On and On and On. Some, I'm thinking, are pretty awful (Shake It Off). Summerteeth I just really love, it's a great summer album (go figure).

2)Elliott Smith - I think I went to sleep to his self-titled. I know I get the fanboy tag a lot about it (and I guess I've moved out of that phase), but he really is ridiculously good.

3)Broken Social Scene - I've been trying to get into this band for a long time now, so I keep revisiting their record. Maybe I just don't get it. It doesn't click with me, I don't see the genious. Swimmers is a really good song, though.

4)M. Ward - I used to think that he was just a mildy aggravating reverb-drenched, honey-voiced, generic folk guy, but now I think Post-War is one of my favorite albums. It's fantastic.

5)Nico - Revisited Chelsea Girl (enter: pattismithowns). What a great album. Thoroughly considering adding These Days to my live set.

Yeah, I finally just got around to listening to Chelsea Girl this week too. Loved it. Also listened to Desertshore and The Marble Index. Didn't like those as much.

Cool... Didn't Elliott Smith cover that song a lot? I know he did Chelsea Girl... I'll have to look it up. Definitely one of my favorite songs ever.

Those are the growers of all-time. Listen to them in the dark a couple dozen times. The "hooks" are there, you just have to let them settle in (see: Teenage Jesus too, Tyler).

  • and by enter pattismithowns you mean enter Ophelia

oh God, I just made a Shakespeare joke.

Maybe it's just because I hate the melodic thing really.. and Mithras toned it down a bit. So it was more listenable. The noodly guitar work i'll never get over.. the vocals I can handle but not that guitar hero shit, it really irks me.. of course Arsis does it a lot better than Van halen and the likes.. I still haven't heard Morbid Angel, but if they sound like Mithras, maybe I should've.
