Hey, I like movies too...

  • Network is a truly great flick. It is not mentioned enough, and its messages and themes have only become more meaninful since its initial release.

I haven't seen any movies in a while. I'm losing my edge. Milk looks really good, but I never got around to seeing it.

If it's half as good as the band Harvey Milk's latest album, then it's guaranteed to be the best movie ever.

    I forgot my physics book.

I'm looking forward to watching a couple of films at the moment. Namely, The Spirit, Fears of the Dark and Slumdog Millionaire.

I'll be watching the last of those tonight I think, it should be a good watch.

    Anyone seen W.?
    Is it any good?

  • Slumdog Millionaire is excellent, you shouldn't be disappointed. Took me by surprise a bit actually cuz I didn't think much of Dev Patel when he was in Skins.

I thought Slumdog Millionaire was boring as hell. It wasn't poorly made or anything but there was nothing outstanding about it.

The Spirit is hilarious, but I couldn't tell if it was supposed to be hilarious or not.

I just thought it was a nice, naive little film. Dev Patel can't act for toffee though, it has to be said.

Going to see Gran Torino tonight. Clint Eastwood is such a badass!

  • I wanna see Gran Torino. benjamin button was such a disappointing bore

  • I'm scared that Clint Eastwood can't pull off the bad ass old guy anymore. He pulled that off really well in the Unforgiven, but that was 17 years ago. Gran Torino defintely seems worth seeing at least once.

  • I like the look of Gran Torino and I love Eastwood. I can't afford the cinema and can't be arsed to download it though. :(

Speaking of badasses, I watched Serpico. It was pretty neat... Pacino in his prime! The fact I knew all about the real Frank Serpico beforehand kinda spoiled some of it though. Either way, it's inspired me to grow a mean ass beard.

I've still not watched Slumdog Millionaire. The plan -should- be to watch it tonight...

I really want to see The Spirit. I've heard it is quite comical knkwzrd, I think it is deliberate. I've not been to see it yet because like N3croyeti I'm too skint to go to the cinema... January is such a long, skint-y month.

I would download it, but there are just smelly CAM rips on the net, and some good quality ones... in Spanish! Who actually takes a camcorder into a cinema these days?

I saw Spirit's trailer. Boy what a fucking waste of time. I mean wasn't Sin City was lame enough? What's the stupid idea of adapting comics anyway?

  • dunno. I'm still looking forward to watching Spirit though (and the adaption of Ronin) because I have a boner for Frank Miller.

Tsotsi was a pretty entertaining gangster/redemption film. Didn't care too much for the dog kicking scene though... the whole animal abuse thing makes me squirmish (Amores Perros was a personal hell)

I saw The Unborn tonight. A laugh riot. Best time I've had in a theater in a few months.

  • I couldn't get over the shitty acting of that kid in Gran Torino - any scene where he's called upon to emote just comes off as really embarrassing. Aside from that, watching Clint being a badass is a singular pleasure no matter how old he is, but his cranky, battle-worn character softens up waaaaay too quickly imo.

I found Seven Pounds sanctimonious and creepy, and it basically felt like a heavy-handed version of The Machinist, only starring a closet case with a Messiah complex. Groo.

For all the outrage that this Spanish horror film was remade (as Quarantine), [Rec] is completely derivative of US horror anyway, and the whole documentary footage thing is looking a bit stale.

The Wrestler is brilliant - you should all see it. Possibly excepting the girls.

Yeah girls aren't smart enough to understand wrestling

  • Exactly

  • Watched Les Quatre Cent Coups and A Bout de Souffle, which were pretty awesome, especially in how they were shot. I should watch more nouvelle vague movies.

    The Departed was highly disappointing.

Really, you were disappointed in The Departed? I loved it, even though I think that Infernal Affairs was better.

I think The Departed is a much better movie than Infernal Affairs. I think Scorcese took more time to develop the characters and the setting than was done with the original, and that gave it a great emotional investment. Infernal Affairs makes you consider the plot twists more, but in the end I found myself not caring as much about the characters.

  • Haven't seen the latter, but I agree. I appreciate the fact that Scorsese is versitle enough to make other types of films (mostly biopics as of late), but I'm glad he's still got the sense to make a good crime flick.

I completely agree with this. Infernal Affairs was way to quick for me. It rushed through most of the story, and most of the time I was only just understanding what was happening and not being given any time to relate to the characters or story.

No offense to any chinese people who may read this, but one of the biggest flaws with Infernal Affairs I found was the fact that I actually had trouble telling the 2 main characters apart in certain scenes. I know I shouldn't criticise the movie for that, but it really affected my understanding of the movie at certain times.
