I've always found Dead Ringers to be his most disturbing film. Something about that HR Giger gynecology equipment, I suppose.

That's one I haven't seen yet. And I need to because I love Jeremy Irons How bad is it, though? If something disgusting is done with gynecology equipment, I may need to pass that one up.

Brick was one of my favorite movies that I saw last year. Actually that and Mysterious Skin were my two favorite movies from 06, and both starred Joseph Gordon Levitt. The guy has turned in to a heck of an actor. Don't watch Mysterious Skin, though, if you are easily disturbed by some implied graphic scenes or if you are extremely disgusted by homosexuality. Watch Brick though, for sure. Great movie!

Have you guys ever seen Mystery Train? It has Joe Stummer, Screamin' Jay Hawkins, and Steve Buschemi in it. It's one of my favorite movies of all time.

There isn't really anything graphically that's all that disturbing in Dead Ringers. It's just disturbing in a really subtle way I can't really describe.

And yeah, Mystery Train kicks my ass.

  • Ugh, The Weatherman?

Naked Lunch and Videodrone are not Cronenberg's best, but A History Of Violence, The Fly, Spider and Dead Ringers are all just fantastic. Dead Ringers isn't graphic though, it just gets under your skin.

Brick is a really amazing film, up and down. Levitt's most recent "The Lookout" is actually really great too. Mysterious Skin was a hell of flick...

Mystery Train is good, but its one of Jarmush's worst unfortunately... but he is one of my very favorite directors, so that isn't much of a criticism...

Here's my rundown of best to worst Jarmush films, since you care.

Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai
    Down By Law
    Stranger Than Paradise
    Broken Flowers
    Dead Man
    Mystery Train
    Coffee and Cigarettes

still haven't seen Night On Earth, despite Waits contributing the entire soundtrack...

A fun fact, did you know that Jarmush started "The Sons of Lee Marvin", a secret club for people who supposedly look like Lee Marvin. Neil Young, Tom Waits, John Lurie and Iggy Pop are among some of the other members.

Does anyone like Michael Haneke? Cache and The Piano Teacher were two of the best films of the past few years, but further back than that, his films like Funny Games are quite brilliant too...

Yeah, the Weatherman really struck a chord with me. As for Jarmusch, I think my favorites of his that I have seen were Down by Law and Broken Flowers. Coffee and Cigarettes was pretty weak, but it had one or two brilliant moments. Night on Earth is one I still want to see as well, and last I checked they do not have it on Netflix. I guess that means its time for Criterion to rescue it. I still want to watch Mystery Train as well.

Cache is on my Netflix queue, I'll let you know when I watch it.

I need to see some more of Jarmusch's work. I'll be getting a Netflix account again in the fall, so I'll have to rent some of them then. I highly doubt I'll be able to find them at Blockbuster.

I just watched Brick as I wait for my netflix account to start up and I have to say it was really good, but predictable. Then again, maybe that's because I spend movies trying to figure out all of the plot twists.

Yeah, of course it was, but the movie was more about style than plot. I thought mixing noir with high school was perfect.

I just watched The Wizard with Fred Savage, Christian Slater, and Jenny Lewis from Rilo Kiley. Let's just say... along with Airborne it is in the top 5 movies of my childhood. Even if it is one big long Nintendo commercial.

Pretty much the best movie ever right there.

I've always wanted to see that movie even though my brother said I used to watch it as a kid.

What, you thought zombies only went after people? Nope, sheep too. Still, I can't think of anything funnier than the old lady getting kicked in the face in Hot Fuzz

    Mo' Better Blues.

Ok sorry sorry see I just don't actually watch (quality) movies. Movies are for the masses, music is for the leet.

But I kinda liked the History Boys (i.e. the only independant movie I've seen in about 1.5 years). It was weirdly pretentious and snobbish but elegant in its cliches as well.

Legendary, I could do with seeing Hot Fuzz again. I don't suppose anyone has heard about a new Simon Pegg / Nick Frost project? They're bound to be working on one, but I've heard nothing so far.

I think it is too early for them to jump right into another project. But, you should check out Spaced if you haven't seen it. A lot of stuff from Shaun of the Dead is from there. The whole "fried gold" phrase.

Hah, Spaced is classic! I have the collectors edition on DVD and I've probably watched it more than could be classed healthy.

I gave someone a shot of my Peep Show DVD's at work yesterday, and I was saying to them that either that, or Spaced would be my favourite (UK) sit-com of recent times.

Have you ever seen Peep Show? I'd imagine you'd enjoy that if you liked Spaced.

No, i've never seen Peep Show. And, as sad as it is, I've only seen 2 episodes of Spaced on BBC America. When are they going to put it on DVD?

Do UK DVD's not work in American players? In saying that, I thought there were going to start making DVD's multi-region?

Failing that, you could watch it on your computer I suppose. I'm fairly certain there'll be torrents of both series floating about on the net.

you can switch regions on your dvd player 5 times. Then it is locked for good. I'll probably just find a torrent of the series, it's only like 12 episodes.
