Pyrate Music is an elektro-techno label based in Edinburgh. It is focused on club music and promoting cerebral Electro,Techno and Nu-Skool Breaks.
Officially starting business in the summer 2006, Pyrate Music had been coming to fruition since 2004 and was initially intended to be a podium for Dee Mond's own music. Starting small, the label put out CD's, Vinyl and Mp3's which caused a storm. It didnt take long for peoples attention to be seized. The first Pyrate Music server host couldnt cope with the demand! The demo's were rolling in fast from all over the world and it became apparent that there was something special happening. After signing a new distribution deal the coming year will see another seven atrists release through the label. Gaining momentum, Pyrate Music is filling its roster up with some of the most talented and exciting producers/performers from all corners of the globe. With increasing atttention from the media and is about to sail into the sunset looking for new adventures. BBC's Annie Nightingale has been giving Pyrate Music some great exposure, playing Dee Mond's "Drawing Board" from the Sharks EP on her Glastonbury show.
Artist Roster

Dee Mond also plays live using two computers, two midi controller keyboards and a two bank sampler. With a wide and varied repetiore he has been heard ripping it up at illustrious techno nights such as Camouflage, Substance, Club Dogma, React, Split, The Institute For Electronic Artists, Tronic, Fake, Oxjam Institute, Urban Niche, Foozle, and more.
Squatter
Based in Chichester, A Conjuror of filthy beats and electro techno tunage. Squatter has a distinctive style with bone crunching beats and bass darker than a coal cellar in winter. Sinister breaks and beats to influence the masses.
Mikey Magic
Born in Edinburgh based on Gold Coast, Australia. Started his musical life as a drummer in 1988. He then progressed on to DJing in 1996 he then became one of the prominent figures on the breaks scene after being introduced to Big Beat by the Boogie-Mo team. His DJing career has taken him to the Breaks capital Brighton . Although he is predominantly a Breaks DJ you can catch him mixing everything from Hip Hop to Dub to Electrclash. He has guested alongside Freddy Fresh , Dave Angel, DJ Hurricane , Lady Wax to name but a few. On a production side of things Mikey has been producing for over 8 years and now feels comfortable enough to share his Digit Type Breaks and Beats.
Espion
Born in Inverness based in Berlin, One of Scotlands foremost producers of electronic music. Skilled on many instruments, and with years of experience in sound production and audio engineering for TV/film as well as running several club nights, Espion is was one of the hardest working artists in the UK (Until he jumped ship to Berlin!), Constantly into new innovative projects and delving into the music of tomorrow.
Metachemical
From Kingston in Canada, Metachemical's superior skills at producing Breakbeat tunes are set to mesmerise the breaks-heads all over the world. Introducing him to the crew with his awesome remix of Dee mond's "If You Cant See The Point" we have more material from Kingston's crafstman to come in the near future.
John Gerard
John Gerard is the host of Leith FM's successful weekly show 'The Vinyl Club' which is now in it's 4th year. With his colleague James Carroll, both have gained a reputation as innovative DJ's and have support from the scenes top DJ's each week. After receiving some exposure under the guise of 'Disfunk', and having his track 'New Tip' played on Radio 1, Rob Da Bank stated If it weren't for pesky Radio 1 policies, I would sign this artist myself'.
His desire to produce has grown although limited between a hectic programming schedule for The Vinyl Club. His current sound is the result of mixing for the last ten years, starting after listening to mix tapes when running buses to gigs such as Hanger 13 and Resurrection. He explained: I used to run coaches to gigs and always had to have the best tapes to play. I would go out and have as many as a dozen blank tapes posted through my door with names of who they were for. Eventually I thought I must have a go myself.
His sound is a mix of hundreds of different influences from the sounds that got him into music: Initially I was listening to Pink Floyd when the acid house sound broke and swept me away with it. Acts like LFO, Hardcore Uproar and a big addiction to The Orb confirmed this as my choice of music. Also helping to influence him are his idol s: My main heroes are Laurent Garnier & Sven Vath, I love so many other acts but these two have been at the top of their game for ages now.
This has helped him maintain an emphasis on the underground, allowing him to experiment with his music: I always try to start off slow and gradually pull the listener in, essentially attempting to go on a musical journey. This allows me to play anything from electronica to banging techno and still keep it relatively underground.
Already he has supported artists such as Ulrich Schnauss, Dave Angel and a pending gig with Samuel L Session, he also produces annual electronica mixes which have gained a cult following as well as his weekly show. His debut release 'Trip to The Vet' is out on 05.10.09 on Pyrate Music with remixes from Squatter and Dee Mond.
