    Psychedelic film?

Anyone know of some really psychedelic films?
I read 2001: A Space Odyssey in the past week and watched the film last night.. and wow, I was really intrigued. Not to mention stoned and hypnotized in a groggy half-asleep state as well. :P But anyways, hows about it?

  • Altered States (1980). Directed by Ken Russel.
Cast: William Hurt, Blair Brown, Bob Balaban...

Strongly advised. Def. a must-watch imho.

"The Flicker": nice short, that works with the the brains method of perception in a very simple but effective way.

    2001: A Space Odyssey, that's for sure.
And also all Lynch's movies, especially: Eraserhead [!], Lost Highway, Inland Empire, Alphabet and his Rabbits series.
Apocalypse Now - Do Lung Brigde scene - must-be-seen.
    Pi by Aronofsky.

"How does it feel? Making history?"
  • Waking Life is definitely a must watch...

" The mole is an animal that digs tunnels under the earth, looking for the sun. Sometimes he gets to the surface. When he sees the sun, he is blinded." -A.J.
  • Pink Floyd's The Wall is great.

I also really liked "Sunshine" - not necessarily psychedelic, but sort of reminded me of 2001. Other weird movies I thought of:

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
    Memento
    The Butterfly Effect
    The Cell
    Requiem for a Dream

  • The Yellow Submarine is a very enticing and colorful film...perfect for a psychadelic state of mind...

" The mole is an animal that digs tunnels under the earth, looking for the sun. Sometimes he gets to the surface. When he sees the sun, he is blinded." -A.J.
  • Willy Wonka and The Choclate Factory (1971) absolutely amazing...

    Donnie Darko
    Paprika (japanese animation)

"I can smoke the pipe of a sweet and better life..."

    ~Flower Power~
  • Hiroshima mon amour (1959)
    L' Année dernière à Marienbad (1961)
    Le Sang d'un poète (1930)
    Prospero's Books (1991)
    Un chien andalou (1929)
    L' Âge d'or (1930)
    Week End (1957)
    Ansikte mot ansikte (1976)
    Viskningar och rop (1972)
    Brazil (1985)
    Twelve Monkeys (1995)
    Naked Lunch (1991)
    eXistenZ (1999)
    Spider (2002)
    Memento (2000)
    Being John Malkovich (1999)
    The Fountain (2006)

these are a few interesting titles, though not all psychedelic per se.

    Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind {Michel Gondry}
    A Clockwork Orange {Kubrick rulzzz}
    Requiem for a Dream {and everything by Aronofsky :) }
something by David Lynch [ The Elephant Man, Eraserhead ] or Kim Ki-duk [Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring, 3-iron]

the first three are my favourite :)

    KAGE BUNSHIN NO JUTSU!
  • The most psychedelic movie I've seen lately is Werewolves on Wheels (1971), a tale of a motorcycle gang that roams the American desert and then they come across a satanic ritualistic group...and the shit hits the fan.
and of course, my all time favourite film.

    HEAVY METAL (1981)

the funkin' best film you will ever see.

Sen to Chihiro no kamikakushi (Spirited Away).
Hauru no ugoku shiro (Howl's Moving Castle).
Kaze No Tani No Naushika (Nausicaä of the valley of the wind).
    Les triplettes de Belleville

And, not really a movie but a mashup of audio and video (in cooperation with the KLF): Am I paranoid?
