Anneke van Giersbergen from The Gathering, currently fronting her own project Agua De Annique, best singer ever in my view. Not really prog, but definitely original and adventurous.
Also, Grace Slick (Jefferson Airplane) and Julie Driscoll (Brian Auger, Julie Driscoll and the Trinity)) from the '60s.
Annie Haslam from Renaissance is really good.
Kate Bush is always experimental, and her early albums have some 70s prog overtones.
    How about Ann Wilson from
Heart? I know they're more hard rock, but check out the early stuff like Dreamboat Annie or Mistral Wind.
There are always some good female singers on Ayreon albums.

If that is a question of a female vocal in progressive rock the favourite undoubtedly Annie Haslam (Renaissance) and if to speak in general about rock music that I the voice would give for Tarja Turunen

I recommend neo-krautrock, space/prog band Zone Six's self titled album. Female vocals are done by Jodi Barry, and are spacey and just simply stunning. The track, "Her Smell Hasn't Left Me" is worth having the album just by itself.

War does not determine who is right, war determines who is left.
  • Female Vocalists

Ann Marie Helder (singer and multi-instrumentalist & ex-Karnataka) has recently joined Mostly Autumn to complement the excellent Heather Findlay (saw them live recently).

Another shout for Christina Booth from Magenta (some really good stuff on their recent album Metermorphosis).
