What are your three alltime favorite bands?

We all have a lot of favorites, I know, but everybody has only a very few bands that are really the ones that have "embraced their soul". So, if you imagine, your flat is on fire and you have just time enough to grab three records out of the rack to save them from the flames ...

    Here are mine:

    Spock's Beard - The Light
    Thin Lizzy - Renegade
Led Zeppelin - The Song Remains The Same

Allthough I'd probably grab the 100 cd's case, the external hard disk and the flip with Backup-DVD's ... ;-)

  • I'm confused. Your subject says three favorite bands, but the content of your message suggests you mean three favorite albums. Which is it?

Choose! Do both! Would be interesting to do both, wouldn't it? OK if I could rescue three bands from the flames it would be Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Spock's Beard. And AC/DC. And Queen. And Thin Lizzy. Hm, I think I'll burn ...

I'd drag Godspeed You! Black Emperor out of the flames.. so I'd also save their more than a dozen side projects at a single blow.. enough for keeping the party up..
Plus: Van Der Graaf Generator, Sigur Rós.

And.. charming gamblers like Rasputina or The Dresden Dolls wouldn't fall prey to a dull flat burning, anyway. They'd have been pokering in cellar with Mathieu Chédid and Ivor Cutler, laughing at the mess. (I guess they were the ones who set the blaze. Just to watch us getting into that hotspot. Sauerei.)

    you chanel chainsaw, you.

Indeed a hard task. Whatever, let's see.

    That would be three albums:

    Quintessence: Dive Deep
Bodhi Khalid: Mother Earth Carry Me
    Sandhan: Piano of Love

...and many great albums will burn... :(

Wherever you go, there you are.

Of all times? Well: Rush, Symphony X, and Zebra(with Randy Jackson!).

Fave albums of all time aren't neccessarily from my fave bands, and not all are Prog albums, but one is definitely by Zebra - Zebra.

  • Dream Theater
    Symphony X
    Shadow Gallery

  • Dream Theater
    Symphony X

  • Bands?

Bands is a lot easier than albums, and since we're only talking Prog it makes things very easy to narrow.

    Genesis
    Jethro Tull
    Renaissance

A look at my chart will show I've recently started checking out Spock's Beard and Porcupine Tree.

Now if you want to go into other kinds of music, it gets a lot more difficult....

  • Gentle Giant is at the top of any list but after that it gets tough. Just to be well rounded (for a white guy, I guess)I'd also grab Sea & Cake and some George Jones.

  • I think in the end, I'd choose death instead of choosing what to keep and what not to. It would just be so horrible to say goodbye to all of this great music.

    I'd have to say..

    Hmm...

Genesis, King Crimson, The Flower Kings, Spock's Beard, Porcupine Tree, Kaipa, Camel, Van Der Graaf Generator, Yes..

And those are BANDS. I'd obviously keep all of their songs.

This is a particularly impossible topic.
