Whats your favorite porland band?
My favorite is The Shins, but I really like The Decemberists.

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day...

I don't consider The Shins a Portland band, as they moved here after they had made it big. My favorite artist who was ever here was Elliott Smith, buy my favorite who is currently here is M. Ward.

• Either the decemberists or Swords (formerly the swords project)

What came first, the music or the misery? People worry about kids playing with guns, or watching violent videos, that some sort of culture of violence will take them over. Nobody worries about kids listening to thousands, literally thousands of songs about heartbreak, rejection, pain, misery and loss. Did I listen to pop music because I was miserable? Or was I miserable because I listened to pop music?

Decemberists, Dandy Wahols, Shins...yeah, I love 'em all, but really, noone really compares to Point Juncture, WA.for me. They have a really wonderful sound, and Amanda's voice is absoultely awesome. Did anyone see them at kitchen sink a couple weeks ago? They really seem to be refining what they have...it sound great.

• Sandpeople make some nice hip-hop (go Rob T!).

Bowel Movement makes some crazy metal (go Theo!).

I also would agree with barewires on Jackie-O Motherfucker, they're stuff is awesome.

I'm not sure if Agalloch is considered local, as I know nothing about them, but I remember hearing that they were so I'd add them to the list if that's the case.

Also Omni-Presence was awesome when they were all together. Only One (formerly OP and Redshield, currently on Sandpeople), Jepedo and I can't think of the 3rd.

Ah yeah, I almost forgot Typhoon, I know nothing about them except that my buddy Joel jams with them, they gave me their CD and it suprized me. Pretty bad quality recording but they definitely were onto some good stuff.

Eat psilocybes. Read Howard Bloom. Listen to Silver Mount Zion.

Talk Demonic

• Jackie-O here too. Also whatever temp.band it was that played with Damo Susuki a few years back. Talk Demonic is nice wandering stuff, and the Point Juncture folks and their music are both absolutely swell!

• Jackie-O here too. Also whatever temp.band it was that played with Damo Suzuki a few years back. Talk Demonic is nice wandering stuff, and the Point Juncture folks and their music are both absolutely swell!

• either Richmond Fontaine, The Jolenes, or Blitzen Trapper. Gotta give it up for Point Juncture WA, Durango Park, Man of the year, and Mie Coykendall as well.

Kitty!
• Crosstide... they've been around forever. Great guys and great music!

definitely either viva voce or the joggers

• norfolk & western.

• WW said Copy is the 'best new band'. I would definitely agree with that, best new "band".

Best 'not new' band - Talk Demonic or Norfolk & Western

All Time - Elliott Smith

• I guess Casiotone for the Painfully Alone doesn't count anymore, huh.

• another cynthia
