Hello, I really don't know much about music so I would like to ask you something. I was listening the other day Tallis' motet for 40 voices and as a first auditive glance, though I enjoy it, I couldn't recognize any general melody -even if there were some localized melodies-, so I wonder about what was the purpose of the 1500s polyphonic composers for the listener to listen? and where are the aesthetics of the music to be identified in the first place? What do you think about it, does these questions make any sense to you?

Hello, glad to see some like-minded listeners. My favorite might be Palestrina. I was amused to see the information on one composer, whose birth and death dates were in the band format, so his birth was 'formed' and his death was 'split' !

Last.fm (or its users) seems to confuse artists (performers) with composers; I prefer to know who is performing the work as well as who composed it. My favorite artist is Cantores conducted by David Allison on the CD "Stabat Mater: Late Medieval Motets of Penitence and Passion." Also, could my fellow Latin-lovers tag polyphonic songs with Latin lyrics as "Latin Polyphony" as well as whatever else applies, so we can hear pure polyphony with only a Latin lyrics on its own station. Best song is "Ave Maria a'4" by Josquin.

interesting that i've been listening to several of the artists in the charts right now, even a few that have no apparent connection to each other or the group. nice to see my good friend mr. lassus in the connected artists.

Hi, Surprised not to see J.S. Bach, C.P.E. Bach or Moondog (Louis Hardin) here.

Welcome to the handful of new members. Please feel free to recommend artists, both composers and choirs, so that I can add them to our Music Connections.
