Paul Albert Masvidal (born January 20, 1971) is the guitarist, singer and a founding member of the recently reunited progressive metal band Cynic and currently also leads the band Æon Spoke. Born in Puerto Rico, Masvidal is of Cuban/Spanish descent and grew up in Miami, Florida.

On Focus he used a vocoder and the pitch of his voice was determined by a keyboard and his voice kind of worked as an envelope filter. I guess you could compare it to a talk box for keyboard. On Traced in Air though, he used a TC-Helicon VoiceLive 2 which just added vocal harmonies an octave up and down and probably some reverb here and there, but there's no keyboard involved so that's actually him singing.
