    The future of PandoraFM?

Are there any plans of making PandoraFM into a more open project? I saw the thread regarding updates and there seems to be developer interest, but not much communication from Gabe who looks to be the sole developer and maintainer.

Gabe, if you've lost interest in the project, how about sharing your code so we don't have to reinvent the wheel. Thanks for hosting a nice service. I hope PandoraFM will live again.

I was thinking about that, too, and I definitely agree. I'm not volunteering, though; I know nothing about that stuff!

    Hello!

To begin, i'm sorry about the lengthy time of issue with submissions. That really sucked.

Secondly, I'm happy to share the link for the code :) In fact, one person has already downloaded it and running his own version of PandoraFM... so I know it works. I'd love to see other people play with it because sadly, this version is really the last that I'm going to develop. It's already a bit feature heavy, so if anything it would need to go in another direction to make it better or different.

    PandoraFM SVN repo on Sourceforge

Admittedly, it's a mess. But there's a readme file that should point you in the right direction of where to start.

This was originally submitted when a team (that just kind of died) was going to move forward with PandoraFM. But now it's just me again :)

    Hope all is well everyone.

    -Gabe

Thanks for the update Gabe. I'm sure as long as the current incarnation of PandoraFM is alive and kicking, most of us will continue to use it. Great to know that the code is out there should the need arise! Thanks for sharing (and for the recent fix)!

  • FWIW, I have rebranded and stripped down PandoraFM and built lastpandora.com so feel free to check it out.

What is the point of this? Everything seems to work well these days. Are there additional features?

  • @jaewun, just thought pandorafm was too bulky and ugly to the point that it was annoying to use. That's all. No, it doesn't add new features. On the contrary, it removes like 80% of the features, stuff that people never used.

The only problem I have with LastPandora is that it waits 80 seconds to send the information to Last.fm. I'd prefer it to let me choose how much time it takes to send it.

Hell, I'd love it if PandoraFM and LastPandora didn't wait at all to send information to Last.fm.

  • Great work Mike!

  • What I came here looking for was a Mobile version of PandoraFM (or LastPandora). What are the chances of getting an iPhone app?

The project is nice, I prefer the look and feel to PandoraFM. However, as has been pointed out before on your shoutbox, one major flaw is that when an artist or track name containing an apostrophe is scrobbled, a forward slash is added before the apostrophe. This flaw alone is enough for me to not use LastPandora. Please consider fixing this as these scrobbles are cluttering up the Last.fm site with erroneous artists and tracks.

    Examples:
    Bonnie \'Prince\' Billy
    Ramblin\' Jack Elliott
    Guns N\' Roses
    The Blower\'s Daughter
    God\'s Gonna Cut You Down

Me too. I'd pay a hefty price (by app-store standards) for an iPhone app that scrobbles Pandora.

  • I really like lastpandora but I really don't like how it switches back to pandorafm whenever it scrobbles. I mean wat?
