  pacothe, next time you check Muse, take a listen to songs like Assasin or Micro Cuts. they do change time signatures, though not so frequently.

  Woah man, let's get some more artists connected to this group. Namely The Dillinger Escape Plan, because they're ridiculous. And Tool, and Mars Volta, and Between the Buried and Me, and The Sound of Animals Fighting, and The Fall of Troy, theres alot missing here.

  my favourite wierd time signature is 11/8, cause you can play two 4/4 sections and then one 3/4. it sounds fucking great.

  @igor paersson Regular time signatures like 4/4 6/8 and 3/4 most definitely serve a very important purpose in music. They're the most natural ones and there's a reason people compose with them 95% of the time. When used effectively, they can stir up emotions from the listener that irregular time signatures cant (or at least not in the same *natural* way). It's precisely this which irregular time signatures exploit and what makes them so effective. It's that missing beat, that added beat, the alternation of meter that draws in the listener. Have you noticed how in lots of avant-garde rock, they often use *regular* time signatures for the most emotional sections? If you feel you can't enjoy music in regular time signatures put on Dvorak's New World Symphony and get back to me ;)

  @fading will You can group 9/8 as 2+2+2+3 I don't know if that would *technically* classify it as an irregular time signature (in an academic sense), but the alternations between duple and triple would result in an irregular feel

  If I remember well my musical classes, 9/8 isn't anything like an odd time signature, but a basical ternary meter...
