Last night, American soul singer Chrisette Michele was in Paris to promote her latest EP, The Lyricists’ Opus and to celebrate her birthday as well (yes, it was yesterday).
After an opening part made by a DJ, and the band getting ready (a guitarist, a bassist, a drummer and a keys player), Chrisette Michele and her backup singer Ashleigh Smith arrived on the stage and got the show started.
They kicked it off with Epiphany (I’m Leaving) (from her 2nd album Epiphany) and continued with the chorus of Aston Martin Music. After that, she sang Charades (from Better, her latest album) and she then went on with Blame It On Me (from the Epiphany album), continued with Rich Hipster, Goodbye Game (from her 3rd album Let Freedom Reign) and Supa.
She kept the show going by taking us back to 2007 and asked us if some people in the audience were in love. Some of them said they were, and on this word, she sang Golden (from her debut album I Am). She then introduced her backup singer Ashleigh Smith to us and both began to sing together. They started with If I Have My Way (from I Am) and continued with a jazz classic, Summertime.
Then, they sang What You Do (from Epiphany), Be Ok (from I Am), a gospel song and A Couple Of Forevers. Both Ashleigh and Chrisette went backstage. Chrisette came back minutes after while the audience was singing Happy Birthday in English and in French. Ashleigh joined her a couple of minutes after to sing Love Is You (from I Am).
After that, Chrisette told us about her latest EP and sang Together. They did some jazz notes, as well as some classic ones and went backstage once again.
Minutes after, Chrisette came back alone and asked which song we wanted her to sing: Best Of Me or Better. We voted and she eventually sang both songs.
She thanked us for coming, told she had a great time with us and she left the stage.
Once again, she didn’t disappoint. The band was great as usual, and both Ashleigh and Chrisette showed us their talents. Chrisette sings the songs entirely and she often asks the audience to sing with her or to clap their hands.
If you have the opportunity to go to one of her concerts, don’t hesitate, you will love it and you will want to ask for more.
