    Do you play an instrument?

I started playing guitar in November 2005, or something. I always wanted to play guitar, but I never did, until it pissed me off so badly that I asked a guitar for my birthday and took lessons. :P

I'm not all that good now, but it could've been worse. I mostly play classic rock songs like Whiskey In The Jar, Highway to Hell and the like, and I'm also improvising a bit.

I still have to learn to recognise the guitar lines in music, so I can't play anything I hear, sadly.

So, what do you play, or sing perhaps, and why?

Playing guitar is a great way of passing the time. :)

  • I'm learning to play bass. I can play the trumpet and I've had some training to sing.

  • Keys, acoustic guitar, viola, a little of everything. I'm only really good with keys though -- getting there with guitar :O

That's a lot, it doesn't matter if you're not that good in everything. :P You'll learn.

  • I started playing guitar 18th Novermer 2003 when i got a guitar for my birthday. I took lessons for two years at Mads Eriksen's guitarschool(www.madseriksen.com).

I had a very brief stint as a drummer, and I just got a set of keyboards (Casio CTK800) so I am finally, at 42yo, teaching myself an instrument. I never had the chance to learn music as a child (for some reason my parents decided that no-one in my family was artistic, and so I never got the chance to even try... irony is I love music, write and have tertiary qualifications in Fine Art Photography). I did a lot of roadie work and lighting/sound stuff in the 80s to pay may way through university.

Mostly I want to learn for my own enjoyment, and secondly to show my son that anything is possible if you want to do it and apply yourself. I'll probably give using the usb connect to attach a PC and try composing some ambient/atmospheric material.

That's interesting, the closest I've played to that was saxophone, which is a pretty boring instrument, imho (don't get me wrong, it can sound great, but it's not my type of thing).

I don't have a clue what french horn is like, really.

French horn has a lovely mellow sound. However, it pays to be careful when kissing a French Horn player (they can go on automatic, and unless prepared for it, it can be awkward). ;)

I'm also a guitarist, although i play piano, bass and drums aswell.

  • Guitar here too, a mexican strat and a vintage vh-500 electro acoustic (lefties). Been playing for almost two years on and off (university work tends to get in the way, unfortunately) and I mostly tend to play jazz songs.

    Good way to relax.

"Has there ever been a performance of 4'33" where the audience applauded between movements?"
  • Been playing a guitar for 3 years, when I do the math (5 actually, with a lot of interruptions and giving up)
Started again now and I'm enjoying it more than ever. ^^

I'd like to learn to play piano and drums too, but I'm focusing on guitar for now.
Lot of catching up to do...

Lately I'm playing a lot of Interpol, they're easy to pick up and really fun to play.

    Phew, for a minute there,
    I lost myself.

I've played the baroque flutes for 8 years. It's pretty boring ... I also have some similar instruments like tin whistles, a shawm, a bombarde ... I just like to xperiment with some folk sounds. But it's nothing "challenging" (what's the word? 0_o)

But now I started to teach myself the guitar ;)

    @

wow flute. same here. I have a wooden flute with six holes in the key of G.
    teaching myself.

as well as drums... I like playing reed instruments, and stringed instruments are challenging but fun.

  • Played guitar for about 3 years now, piano for a lot more. Additionally, I still play violin from when I was younger as well as euphonium and trombone. I've had experience with a lot more instruments but not enough to preform.

I also dabble a bit with writing music, though it has yet to turn out better than I expect :P

I'm thinking of picking up the saxophone again, but I'm not sure how to finance the whole thing, I mean, the instrument and the lessons don't come cheap.

  • Do DAWs count? Digital Work Station, any one? I do tons of music programming- and turn tables? How about those?

I'm a vocalist. I keep starting to teach my self the keys shortly before I forget to continue teaching my self the keys... I love those keys, though.

I make some kickin gabber. I am Shyft.

I make some outlandish metal. I am Red Ankh.

I make some schizophrenic avant-garde. I am Philopsycho Lawlawlawl.
