I figured it would be helpful to start a thread that lists artists (and albums) that make quality music that are also safe to buy.

A lot of good artists on 'the End records.' Personally I dig agalloch and ulver. Devin Townsend has his own record label solely for his own projects and things, so that's cool. (he's also in strapping young lad which is century media released.)

Pain of Salvation is on Inside Out which is an independent prog/power metal label. Aha. :D

    easily 65daysofstatic and Maybeshewill.
Ofcorse, then there's The Silent Ballet compilations, and infact anything else on the Lost Children net label! It's all free (and fucking awesome) post-rock to anybody that wants it =)

Hot Cross (at least their old stuff)
    Converge
    Old Man Gloom
    Red Sparowes
    pg. 99
    The Mercury Program
    Ed Gein
    Fucked Up
    Youth of Today
    Botch
    Takaru

I pretty much listen to a mix of sludge/doom, old style screamo, hardcore (oldschool hardcore, some metalcore, and chaotic hardcore) and post-rock. I try to keep it varied!

The best part is that I don't support the RIAA by listening to them or buying their stuff!

  • Demilich

Demilich, this band are actually doing the opposite than RIAA does! When these guys have earned enough from their albums, they give it away for free ^^
    http://www.anentity.com/demilich/download.php
You can download covers and music! The music is not in some shitty mp3 quality only, but in FLAC too! All free for download! If you still wants to support the band, buy an album of em! If you are into Death Metal, Demilich - Nespithe is a great album! =)

  • My entire charts?

As far as being stronly anti-RIAA in their actions
its hard to go past Big City Orchestra, just see what a member of that group loaded as their offical image on last.fm.

Also there is the noise musician IDX1274 who releases all his Cd's for free, asking only for you to cover postage costs when ording from him.

  • Almost everything on my chart but Sabbath and Metallica.

    Jello Biafra
    Wolves in the Throne Room

As you may have noticed, there's a strong tendency towards anarchy in my charts.

  • how about the basically unsigned, like me, 2loose

  • As someone above said, all DIY punk ... and to a further extent, everything DIY. Some of my favorites: Crass, Leftover Crack, Sage Francis, ect. . . .
