• Steve Albini rules.

I know it's pretty well known, but in case anyone hasn't seen it before, there is a great little essay-tyoe-thing written by Steve Albini that details just how exploitative major labels are.

It's pretty disheartening stuff when you consider that many of our favourite bands are totally broke as a result of these businesses and the backstabbing nature of the employees.

    "Error."
  • His production is shitty

  • Great musician and producer. AppleKabukiSuri, his "shitty" production is intentional, he mainly produces NOISE bands...so obviously it's supposed to sound "shitty"

  • He mainly produces rock bands trying to cover up the fact they are terrible with noisy production, he needs to learn some tricks besides putting the bass guitar really low in the mix and having really tinny sounding cymbals. I think Big Black are alright and I respect that he only charges the studios standard sound engineering rates for his production duties, but I just don’t like the way his production sounds and am hoping his hasn’t fucked up Om’s newest album.

BTW there is a big difference between noise rock and actual noise music. I think you summed it up best by saying noise rock is "supposed to sound shitty".

why are you talking about the author rather than about what he had to say?

    My spoon is too big!
  • okay then, its a good article and yes it is really shocking how shit it is to be signed to a label.

    He is not a producer.

He is not a producer - he is an engineer. And not all of them are "NOISE" bands. Look up "Boredoms" or "Maldoror".

  • That's just semantics, he is a shitty sound engineer same diff. Regardless of whether he applies that title to himself what he does is regarded as and is often credited as production.

  • To criticise the technical quality of his production is to have no idea of the difference between mechanics and art.

  • I'm sure if I criticised him from an artistic standpoint someone would have come back with "Regardless of what you think of his artistry he very technically sound producer/sound engineer."

  • DID YOU KNOW:

    OPINIONS
    ARE SUBJECTIVE
