Michael Poulsen - (ur. 10 października 1975 w Danii) - obecnie wokalista, gitarzysta i główny kompozytor w stworzonej przez siebie grupie Volbeat. Jest też odpowiedzialny za wszystkie teksty zespołu.

Poulsen dorastał w małym miasteczku, godzinę jazdy samochodem od Kopenhagi, w robotniczej rodzinie. Ma siostrę bliźniaczkę oraz dwie młodsze siostry, które również są bliźniaczkami. Jego rodzice byli wielkimi fanami Elvis’a Presley’a , Jerry’ego Lewis’a oraz Chuck’a Berry’ego.

Jako nastolatek zaczął słuchać muzyki metalowej, m.in. Iron Maiden, Whitesnake, Deep Purple czy Black Sabbath. W wieku 17 lat przeprowadził się do Kopenhagi, gdzie założył swój pierwszy zespół Dominus.

Dominus w latach 1994-2000 wypuścił na rynek 4 płyty. Zespół rozpadł się rok później, gdy Michael poczuł, że ma już dość death metalowej muzyki i sceny. Napisał nowe, bardziej rock’n’rollowe kawałki i stworzył Volbeat.

Po wypuszczeniu dwóch dem ich debiutancki album The Strenght /The Sound / The Songs osiągnął 18. pozycję na duńskiej liście TOP 100, stając się pierwszym od dwudziestu lat albumem duńskiej metalowej grupy, który dostał się do czołowej 20.

22 kwietnia 2006 roku, Poulsen wystąpił razem z muzykami Elvis’a Presley’a śpiewając 3 piosenki: ‘Suspicious Minds’, Don’t Be Cruel’ i ‘Little Sister’.
Głos Poulsena zrobił duże wrażenie na muzykach Elvis’a. Stwierdzili, że ma on świetne warunki i że może śpiewać piosenki ‘Króla’. Dla Michaela stanowiło to ogromny komplement i wyróżnienie i - jak sam wyznał - zamknął się po tym wszystkim w jakimś pokoju gdzie płakał przez 5 minut.

Michael Poulsen (born October 10, 1975) is a Danish vocalist and guitarist. He is currently the singer and main songwriter of the band Volbeat. He is also responsible for all of the band's lyrics. Poulsen grew up in a small town which is about a one hour drive away from Copenhagen in a working class family. He has a twin sister and two younger sisters who are also twins. His parents were big fans of Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis Johnny Cash and Chuck Berry. As a teenager, he got in touch with metal music like Metallica, Iron Maiden, Whitesnake, Deep Purple and Black Sabbath. At the age of 17, he moved to Copenhagen and formed his first band Dominus.

Dominus released four records between 1994 and 2000. The band split-up a year later as Poulsen was fed up with Death metal music and the Death metal scene. He wrote new songs with a more rock'n'roll approach and established Volbeat. After releasing two demos, their debut album The Strength / The Sound / The Songs reached number 18 in the Danish charts and became the first album of a Danish metal band in 20 years to enter the top 20. On 22 April 2006, Poulsen performed with some of Elvis Presley's studio musicians in Copenhagen. Volbeat's sophomore record Rock the Rebel / Metal the Devil and their third effort Guitar Gangsters & Cadillac Blood went straight to number 1 in the Danish charts. In 2006, Poulsen was nominated in the categories Singer of the year and Composer of the year at the annual Steppeulven awards. Two years later, he was nominated in the category Best singer at the Danish Music Awards.
