Rofl morons........lemme break metal down for ya.......Faster, Harder, Amplified, Louder version of Rock thats why its called metal in the first place and not 'Hard rock', unfortunately thats not different enough to distance it from rock music completely, and it was rock that shat the crap that is metal out in the first place. And Sabbath did not create metal....ROCK bands did, Psychedelic bands like Ironbutterfly all had the 'First metal tracks'. I can't believe people are actualy thinking metal is entirely different from rock made me LOL As many people have stated including musicians themselves, metal IS Hard rock, with less blues, and more brute force, Metal IS a sub-genre of Hard rock, whoever says diff, don't know their genres pretty good lol

Enough of one that it's kind of retarded to think that Metal isn't its own genre. I mean, you wouldn't call rap a subgenre of techno just because it uses electronic beats or whatever.

In retrospect, I guess it would make more sense to just call it "Metal > Other Rock". Also, I just read alicenroses' second post, but I still think it makes a hell of a lot more sense to post discussion on this group in the actual group shoutbox.

Also, I just wandered in to say that without reading all the stuff below. I'll just add that I've always seen "rock" as a huge umbrella term for modern "popular music" with some or all of the commonly acknowledged features of rock music: guitars, sung lyrics, 4/4 time signature, conventional structure, et cetera. Prog rock, for example, doesn't always fit all of these categories, but it's still a subgenre of rock. I'd almost go as far as saying that it's any modern music featuring electric guitars and drums, though you could make rock music entirely with synths and it would still be rock. Of course, it all depends on how narrowly you view the definition of "rock", and the subjectivity of music genres makes all this debating pretty stupid. So in conclusion, all the stuff I just wrote was pointless.

howdy there :3 i aint "True" but i sure like metal over rock although i do listen to quite a bit of industrial, coinsidentaly Muramasan Elfen Lied is my favorite anime :D
