No, read THIS first - it will solve your lastfm / mediamonkey issues..

Media Monkey is now officially compatible with Last FM but you need to install the official addon available free from their website:

    http://www.mediamonkey.com/addons/general/

Once installed, go to Tools/Options and click Last FM Service under the library tree and enter your lastfm details, simple.

You'll have a new icon on the Media Monkey toolbar, clicking it will cycle thru various options.

    Green: Live Scrobbing
    Amber: Cached Scrobbing
    Red: Scrobbing turned off

This add on is fairly new so please try to spread the word to other mediamonkey and lastfm fans :-)

  • You're right, it scrobbles, but as far as I can see, it's not perfect yet. I'm used to Windows Media Player which ran smoothly with Last fm, and when I doubble clicked the Last.fm tray icon in the lower right side of the screen, Last fm would show some information about the band, I was listening to, such as the number of plays of the song, similar artists, and so on.. But with Mediamonkey, it doesn't show that.

that's because what you're talking about is the Last.FM player/scrobbler that is distributed by Last.FM, the new plugin for mediamonkey is for scrobbling purposes only, if you want to view information about the artist you can just go to your Last.FM profile and click on the name of the artist in your recently played tracks.

p.s. this is how i've had mine configured for a while, and it definitely works and is solid. For sure the best way to get mediamonkey + Last.FM playing well together.

  • Doesn't matter now, I've turned Media Monkey down in favor of Windows Media Player. I discovered MM couldn't play some tracks, I had bought in an online store and thought that's it. Now i'm only using it for iPod syncronizing. a shame

It's a lot more convenient to just pop that little window up and look at all the info than going to your profile and entering the band's page. I still use the Winamp plugin and there's been no trouble whatsoever, and I can't see why the official plugin can't be developed well enough to work with the program itself instead of just being a data sender.

    Whatever.
  • Is there a way to make it add the album art automatically? So far, I've had to do it manually every time.

There are a number of MediaMonkey add-ons you can use to show the exact same info (MonkeyRok is one). The beauty of MM is you aren't locked into only showing certain info or being forced to use stupid 3rd party tools like the last.fm app (though you do still have that option).

btw if you have more questions about MM you should visit their forum, the users there are quite helpful and friendly and its a better place to discover MM's true potential and get more info about it than here...

  • Thanks, I'll check it out :)

Lots of Mediamonkey plugin scripts there.

  • Werewolfhero, thanks for the link! I found the Batch Art Finder 3.2-script, which seems to be what I'm looking for, but when I try to install it, it says "Product installation error" ):

Right click on your medimonkey icon on the desktop or where ever it is, and run as administrator, then try running the plugin.

  • shady_08 thanks! it works perfectly now. I thought i was the administrator though, but nevermind. thanks for helping me out (:

Its due to Vista/Windows 7 "User access control" feature, if you turn it off you don't have to start MM as admin to install add-ons.

  • your welcome and glad you got the issue sorted out

  • I'm new to this

Live scrobbling will scrobble the tracks as you play them. Cached scrobbling is if you don't want to scrobble at the current moment for some reason and want to scrobble it later (ex: no internet connection, want to wait to scrobble the plays because you want to submit portable device plays first, etc.)

    scrobbling all tracks twice..

as you may see on my profile...all songs i listen to in mediamonkey are being scrobbled twice...anyone know why this may be?? i have a feeling it could have something to do with the fact that i may well have the winamp scrobbler still installed? thanks :)

Yup. Make sure you're only using one scrobbler at a time.

  • a little bug

this happen when I use 'cache only submission for last.fm' or probably whenever I did not connect to the internet while playing MM. So, instead of 'Mono & World's End Girlfriend', the scrobbler scrobbled 'Mono %26 World's End Girlfriend' instead. I know this really doesn't matter much to the usability of the scrobbler, but it would be really great if you can fix it.

It still doesn't work over here. I downloaded the MediaMonkey add-on and enabled the scrobbler via the green logo, but still no scrobbling. Anyone with the same problem?

Did you enter your login info at the options? Options > Last.fm? What does the log file say if you did?

Hey, just wandering, the Cached Scrobbing, will it automatically scrobble when you do get an internet connection? Or do you have to tell it to scrobble.

As soon as the icon is green and you have an internet connection it will scroble.
