Yeah man, it's awesome for more textural or "free" stuff. Or use it in conjunction with other things if you just want to make noises in it. That's what various bods do - mash things up and then chuck them into their favourite sequencer type app. If you're being above board about paying for software, it's just a ridiculously cheap option.

The obvious limitation to those used to a more traditional software setup is that it receives MIDI in a very limited fashion, so although you can load up VSTis, you can't control them without something sending MIDI to Mulch. The built in contraptions that eg. playback drum sounds or generate arpeggios are really very basic, but I quite like bashing away with its limitations.

I did a whole album with a friend using it and also did some of the example files. You can listen to some MP3s here, it's the Montano stuff: http://www.nonwrestler.com/audio.shtml

I think Deadbeat is one fairly established artist who not only declares his love for Mulch, but is a pretty obvious user. Fourtet is the "biggest" I guess. Well, no, Nine Inch Nails probably are, but I don't like them. :P

  • Thanks for the tips, man. That's great.
I'm more interested in playing samples through it than I am in using the VSTis, so hopefully that'll be okay.

The Montano stuff was interesting. definitely a neat idea behind it. =)

can somebody tell me how to start (various) drumpatterns at different times? I don't really get how to....when I create a pattern along with eg. a drone or bassline, it just starts all the way through, I can't choose how to begin at for example the fourth beat of the bassline. please pm or shhoutbox me :)

I think starting them all at the same time , ie , the beginning and using the Mute / unmute to introduce each bit is one way.
