Who would you most have liked to see live but can't?

Who would you most have liked to see live but can't because they aren't doing concerts anymore for whatever reason?

For me it is Led Zeppelin, but Queen would also have been brilliant.

I want to live, and I want to love, I want to catch something that I might be ashamed of.

I wish I could have seen Queen live at Wembley

  • The Velvet Underground.

Or David Bowie in the Ziggy era.

  • AC/DC with Bon Scott
    Jimi Hendrix
    Ramones

  • Ooh, or Split Enz.

Or The Only Ones. My two obsessions at the moment. Argh, so many bands.

  • Led Zeppelin
    David Bowie
    The Stooges

A load of bands that were part of the London and New York Punk scenes.

The Cars. No contest. And NOT the fucking New Cars.

My DVD and videos I've found on Youtube are great, but it just isn't the same...

After them, probably Talking Heads or The Clash.

(and for the record, people, it's kind of unfair if you were to say The Beatles since they weren't touring when they made their best albums so we really wouldn't have known what the songs sounded like live.)

  • Curve. No contest. Not sure how good they actually were live, but it would've been worth it, just to stand in the eye of the storm...

  • I wish I could have seen Pulp at Glastonbury too. That would have been fun.

Jimi Hendrix and 70s Bowie would have been great too.

    The Stooges.

  • The Cars would be pretty awesome.

The edge of night, distract yourself
    Obstacles don't work
    Homogenize, decentralize
    It's just a quirk
  • Suicide
    Nick Drake
    Silver Apples
    Piper-Era Pink Floyd

Currently digging 60's psychedelia, garage and experimental music and always looking for new suggestions.
  • It would have been amazing to have seen The Velvet Underground (as so few people did in their day), but I would have loved to have been able to see Joy Division or one of Throbbing Gristle's infamous shows. It's just a shame that the best gigs I can think of are the ones which took place before I was even born!

  • Piper-Era Pink Floyd - good choice. That would have been an experience.

    Same with Joy Division.

    Suicide

I need to hear more songs by them. I have only heard Dream Baby Dream so far.

I've heard some things about Suicide's live shows...mainly from the interview segment of The Cars Live, since on several occasions they opened for The Cars. They got pelted with drinks quite often, apparently (maybe because the audience wasn't expecting music like theirs?), and the lead singer would smack himself with the microphone.

  • The Who, when they had the title of Loudest Band in the World. Specifically:
    1965-the first guitar smashing!
1967/8-A Quick One While He's Away, live? hell yes.
1969/70-The pinnacle of their live performance.

I can (and have) see(n) them now yes, but it's not the same without The Ox and Moon the Loon.

    hmmm, also:
Any evening at CBGB's in '77 would be lovely, in specific to see Richard Hell.

    aaand, The Smiths circa 1984.

Even when they were touring, there were all the screaming fangirls; you'd see a bit of hairshaking over the screamers, hear hardly any music... eh.

  • The Cure, Porno era :), The Cars, The Clash, Bowie, Ziggy era, and Neutral Milk Hotel, wich isn't htat old but would've been great.

EDIT (almost a year later): Talking Heads.

  • Joy Division, The Doors, Led Zeppelin, The Clash, Bowie, Velvet Ungergound, Stooges... ohh let's just say all of the ones everyone listed.
