People snob me a lot for liking Glee. I like a lot of music, and I like musicals, and covers because they are fun. Kind of tired of defending my taste to haters. I love all kinds of music (except metal, tbh). And so what if Glee is my "top artist" on here after one year? That's hardly representative of my lifetime listening history. A lot of stuff I listen to doesn't even get scrobbled anyways.

@Thizzia many people are hating Marina & the Diamonds because some songs of her second album 'Electra Heart' have a more mainstream production and they call her a sell-out. Actually it's a very deep album

Hey guys, please collaborate telling me about new bands that are getting snobbed. Everyday a new artist hits the mainstream or something, and the hate begins. Please let me know, so I can I add them to the 'artists connections' - that helps to promote our group better :)

    I love this group :-)

of course our chart is like that. if you joined this group it's because you've been snobbed. they are all current mainstream pop and that's what makes music snobs snob people. i don't see any problem with that chart ^_^

You know what? I'm PROUD of our charts.

I just wanted to introduce myself to the group and say how much I like the idea of this group. Music snobbery needs to stop.

  • DarkElvick

I've only left a group because people kept bitching about the charts not reflecting the group's "idea" (Bi-polar taste). Just because there's more people listening to certain artists than others, doesn't mean the people in the group don't listen to stuff completely opposite to that. It just means that they're less common in the collective of people. It got old seeing people bitch about it, so I left.

\/ haha, true. I don't understand people who leave groups just because of the charts .__.

If I were a snob, I would leave the group instantly, when looking at its charts. ^^

The worst music snobs in my opinion are the one's who judge a band based on it fanbase. [3] Pretty well said...

Gotta agree with Neon_Spadezzz here. We must revive COMMON SENSE!!

Personally I tend to take the view that few of us can really afford to be that snobby about music, anyway. Surely, even the most determined of hipsters find themselves swaying and grinning to a bit of Girls Aloud or Lionel Richie's Dancing on the Ceiling, every now and then. Or something else that's just 'silly'. C'mon... they're human, they surely must. :-p

The most ridiculous thing I know are people who categorically abandon bands and artists when they become mainstream. Unique snowflakes to the left.

If you like AFI, Britney Spears, and Cocteau Twins, then you like AFI, Britney Spears, and Cocteau Twins. It's music, not the end of the world.

How can you judge a band by its fan base? You can't do that, or shouldn't, because music is music. Everything from jazz to rap to pop is music, and just because you don't like it doesn't constitute the fact that it isn't music. I will not even point you to my artists, because I am not here to brag about my taste in music, I am here to inform people that common sense has died.

  • Die_In_a_Fire

I guess my point was that it shouldn't have such a huge impact on the snobs' lives if someone doesn't share their musical preferences, cause that's what they're always bitching about.. How their taste is superior etc blah blah.. fuck it I dunno. I missed my own point :D

    janeiro 2012
  • Die_In_a_Fire

Most music snobs are lonely, afraid and have low self-esteem. They seem to find comfort in flaming the musical preferences of others and spewing verbal feces all over the interwebs due to aforementioned self-esteem issues. It really shouldn't have such a huge impact on your everyday life If someone doesn't like what you like.. rant finished :)

The worst music snobs in my opinion are the one's who judge a band based on it fanbase. Music Snob: "Oh I can't stand Emilie Autumn! Only mallcore poseurs listen to her music!" . Me: "But, what do you think of her music?" Music Snob: "I haven't listened to any of it yet".

Oh, well, that's not so bad, then. It's always fun to find new music, especially stuff that no one else has heard of yet.

  • magicrat880

In defense of the obscure music game though, they are pretty tongue in cheek - the goal as I saw it is also to actually finding new stuff to listen to, which is fun in itself. Kicking members is their way of keeping score in their "game", everyone is let back in once a new round starts. I'm sure you can find groups that are a lot more snobby than that if you try :)

  • DarkElvick

They don't have members, because they kick them... xP

"According to her though unless it's "metal" it's gay crap." Ugh- that's another thing I hate- when people use the word "gay" to refer to music they don't like, as though being gay is a bad thing. She's a metal fan, huh? I'd bet she likes the band Judas Priest- which is fronted by an openly gay man. And other people who call music they dislike "gay" have no problem admitting they like the music of Michael Stipe (from REM), Freddy Mercury (from Queen), and Elton John- all of whom are gay.

@Brokenshelf @selfsurprise I wasn't as...high-spirited...towards her as I was when I came on here. I was very polite and definitely NOT snobby to her (I do hate music snobs after all) I just felt really angry that she was so patronising to me so I suppose I did come across dismissive on here. I don't think I was in the actual conversation though. I remained open-minded and listened to all the music she sent me and explained exactly what I did like and what I didn't like. According to her though unless it's "metal" it's gay crap.

@mangaeye: You did kind of dismiss "loud" music (death metal, power electronics, etc - please elaborate). Snobbishness ought not to beget snobishness.

@mangaeye You were about as snobby as the other person.

Come to think of it, there are quite a few people who are snobby towards Journey fans.

Had a huge conversation with a music snob yesterday over the internet. I typed some Alanis Morissette lyrics to her. She called me gay and advised me to try something more "brutal". I told her that loud music does not necessarily mean good music. I told her I like music with emotion and a melody - yeah, I like catchy music, not some noise that goes in one ear and straight out the other. She spent about half an hour talking down to me and being rather patronising, doing the whole "OMG CAN'T BELIEVE YOU DON'T KNOW THAT" when I didn't know a song she talked about. Uuuuuuugh how are you supposed to tell these people "SHUT THE FUCK UP" in a nice way?

  • DarkMage530

I'm actually not a fan of Don't Stop Believing. I don't hate it and I don't outright dislike it, but if i never heard it again I'd be alright with that. I don't care for journey in general but "Anyway you want it" is decent.

Come to think of it, even though I am a Yeah Yeah Yeahs fan who has also dabbed into some Green Day I appreciate the dance-pop band Cascada. However, haters are going to hate.

  • Neon_Spadezzz

"Music is supposed to be felt, so there will be as many music styles as there are personalities in this world." [5] I agree. Right on the money. Granted, some music will make you feel more than others. That is why I have a respect for every genre because that means that, even if I don't listen to it, I can still appreciate it for what it is: a work of art. I cannot stand country but it is sound and sound is reality/life/metaphysics/artistry.
