Galante music—this style was instrumental in the transformation from baroque music to classical

What you never knew about baroque and classical

why do we love Vivaldi ? as late as in 20th century, academic science "created"
an era called Baroque today. Vivaldi didn't know. his music predominantly was
written in pre-classical Galante style which overcame baroque polyphony.
this transformation period from baroque to classical style is said to have taken
place in the years 1720 to 1770. but Galante style isn't confined to this pre-
classical Rococo period. we even find it in early italian composers (il nuovo stile)
like Domenico Belli (?-1627) ...

important composers
Antonio Vivaldi
Domenico Scarlatti
Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, son of J.S. Bach
Johann Christian Bach, son of J.S. Bach
Wilhelm Friedemann Bach, son of J.S. Bach
Georg Philipp Telemann
Christoph Willibald Gluck
Leopold Mozart, father of W.A. Mozart
Luigi Boccherini
Jean-Philippe Rameau
Georg Friedrich Händel

I'm torn on this question, so let me play devil's advocate. Even assuming that the label "baroque" were merely chronological, is pigeonholing a composer according to a single style in which he's said to have written more desirable than pigeonholing him according to when he lived? The former is open to argument (often endless argument, with different people defending different ways of categorising styles), the latter not. In the former approach, the implication is that he wrote in only one style, which is surely worse than merely placing him in a chronological series of overlapping styles? (Incidentally, as with many terms used in musical history and criticism, "baroque" as a way of referring to a period/style dates from the nineteenth century, but that of course doesn't mean that the period/style to which it was used to refer wasn't already recognised anddiscussed.)
