what's your favourite classic track?

  • what's your favourite classic track?

im sure if you're part of this forum you'll already know the majority of the tracks considered classic in hip hop...

    i dunno what mine is..

either T.R.O.Y by pr & cl smooth or 93 til infinity by souls of mischief probably... but then there is passing me by by the pharcyde as well! ahhhhh i could be here for days. ONE OF THOSE THREE.

    what about you guys?

  • Hah...The Message. :P

Or it got to be C.R.E.A.M. but when you say classic in my mind come something like
Ulramagnetic MC's - Ain't It Good To You or Give The Drummer Some
or De La - The Magic Number

  • I'd say The Message By Nas, or T.R.O.Y. by Pete Rock and CL or Big L - The Heist or Big Pun - Twinz

  • To my mind "Can´t know the Hustle" of Jay-Z or "Shook Ones Pt. 2" of Mobb Deep or "NY State of Mind" of Nas.

Even though we're not that deep yet, I'm just not gonna do any repeats. here's some of my favorite "Classic" cuts.

Common - The Light, I Used to Love H.E.R.
Nas - It Ain't Hard To Tell (^^ I don't think I would consider The Message by Nas a "Classic"^^)
De La Soul - Eye Know, Keepin' The Faith
    Camp Lo - Coolie High
    Biggie - Juicy
    Fugees - Ready or Not
ATCQ - Scenario, Electric Relaxation, Award Tour, Can I Kick It?
    Outkast - ATLiens
The Roots - You Got Me, What They Do
    Black Star - Definition
Mos Def - Ms. Fat Booty

Dang, I really could go on all day (prob all month) but that's gonna do for now...

La Di Da Di by Slick Rick.
how could have no one mentioned it? D:

    I has a music!
  • I can't believe that you consider E&A or J5 a classic..

  • J5 have a bunch of classics!

aside from concrete schoolyard / quality control all of their albums have loaaaaads of great songs. do you not like jurassic?

  • I adore them but they're clearly not a classic. =)

i gotta agree, E&A is DOPE, but nothing CLASSIC. and as for J5, same thing. the closest they have to classic is Quality Control and What's Golden. end of discussion. thats not saying they dont have other dope tracks - they have lots - just nothing that can even make an argument with other classics.

  • Guns Are Drawn can't be classic too.And listing any song by Nas out of Illmatic when talkin about classic is kinda funny too.(just to let ya know that above I mean The Message by Grandmaster Flash, not the Nas song).
Oh, and then - Rapper's Delight
Insane In A Man Brain may be goes there too.
    Gangstarr - Take It Personal
    Brand Nubian's One For All..
Black Sheep - The Choice Is Yours definitely :P
Poor Righteous Teachers - Rock Dis Funky Joint

    That's classic.

good calls, yea as for the roots, if we're talking truly whats the most classic of their classics... it has to go to "You Got Me" and "What They Do"

"The Next Movement" and "Act Too (Love of My Life)" might be considered, but i ultimately think they fall short of the classic title.

also how about Run DMC - Walk This Way, and It's Tricky

and wow, no one said Pharcyde yet. How about "Passing Me By" and "Runnin' "

  • Come Clean - Jeru and Wu-Tang aint nuthing to f*ck with - Wu-Tang Clan are proper classics too. But I'd definatley go for T.R.O.Y.!
