Last.fm is dead! Long live Libre.fm!

  • Last.fm is dead! Long live Libre.fm!

For some of you this is probably old news, already, but for those who don't know.

A group of free software users and developers gathered around the creation of a real alternative to last.fm, scrobbling included, that is really free (both as in free speech and free beer). It is still in an alpha stage of development, so it doesn't have much features for now, but scrobbling and statistics works great already, and they have a better privacy policy than last.fm does.
As it is still alpha, for now works only scrobbling, statistics, profile editing, and listening tracks from Jamendo. But there is a lot of work in progress and the whole thing looks VERY promising.

I think they deserve our support.

    Take a look at http://libre.fm/

Good initiative. It's a shame the site doesn't look really attractive.

  • haha... it'll take time for our "transfer"... maybe when theres the possibility to carry our statistics...

i just uploaded my entire "last.fm-track-list-listening-history-since-2005" to libre.fm! Now they only need more developers and fast servers (and us)!

  • It's much faster now! :)
    But it doesn't support AIMP2 :(

  • its kinda hard to understand how it works :S

  • Nope...

    "Nosce Te Ipsum..."

Apollo was often portrayed as a god of apportionment, who from his vantage point could see what was coming to everyone. More than a statement encouraging self identity, this phrase originally meant something more akin to "Know your place", reminding visitors that neither they nor the temple staff were gods, the true God was and is Me...
  • i tried :l i dont like it at all :|

  • well, it depends what one wants
    e.g.

    - libre.fm can be used as a backup center of your last.fm data (see here)
e.g. export for ca. 1500-1700 tracks takes 1 min
import time to libre.fm: in 1 min ca. 1320 tracks
    - you can install your own version on your servers (private and no one sees what you listen)
    - here are clients which support libre.fm already
    ...

last.fm tools: music soulmates, recommender for: bands, last.fm groups, trends, ...
