1.13 'Epitaph One' & The unaired pilot 'Echo' *CONTAINS SPOLIERS*
Discussion thread for the 'thirteenth' episode and the unaired pilot.
Epitaph One: Personally, I loved it. Whiskey is my favorite character within the series itself and the fact that she was featured so heavily in this episode was a major bonus for me.
The little girl that was not a little girl had to be my favorite surprise of the entire episode. This also made me like Adelle much more than I had previously to watching. Bonus; Felicia Day as a bad-ass (Kind of) resistance fighter.
It did not however change my opinion of either Paul or Caroline/Echo. I still disliked them both immensely at the end of the episode.
Echo: I wish they had used this as the pilot instead of Ghost. Ghost was just....lacking. Now, this episode made me like Echo a lot more than previously, same with Agent Ballard. Or maybe it was watching Echo shoot Agent Ballard that I liked. Hee.
This one was a lot darker than the version they aired and I felt that it was a much better choice. As I watching Ghost I kept asking myself, 'Where's the funny? Joss always has funny. What's with the convoluted story line?' But, as I was watching this version of the pilot, I felt like I was watching a Joss show. It had the funny, the better story line and even better acting.
I think epitaph one was one of the best written and acted scripts of dollhouse. amy acker as whiskey was superb and I really find it uncomforting to know that she'll only be in 3 episodes this season.
felicia day was an welcome addition to the cast and I hope that she can keep up her amazing performance.
as for the pilot I agree, it was much darker and everything happened so fast. for a pilot I think it wouldn't have been easy to understand the essence of the show ...so 'ghosts' did a good job to introduce you to the dollverse, but I wished that the writers had used some ideas of 'echo' for the following episodes of season one.
