    Should we burn "The Beekeeper"?

    Ok, it's slightly provocative...

The Beekeeper, released in 2005, has received many reproaches. They could be summarized in three words: bland, long, incoherent. I have to say that the garden-concept is weak, and has always seemed very unclear to me. On the other hand, this album contains really powerful songs, and live versions revealed that these studio seeds had to grow on stage.

I think that damaging errors have been committed by Tori Amos, as a producer, during the Beekeeper recording and mastering sessions.

It definitely should have been a shorter album. Here is my personal tracklisting:

    1.TocarParasol
    2.TocarSweet the Sting
    3.TocarThe Power of Orange Knickers
    4.TocarHoochie Woman
    5.TocarMarys of the Sea
    6.TocarMother Revolution
    7.TocarGarlands
    8.TocarGeneral Joy
    9.TocarWitness
    10.TocarBarons of Suburbia
    11.TocarOriginal Sinsuality
    12.TocarThe Beekeeper

It should also include an alternative cover art...
Someone on atforumz created and suggested this one:

This picture would also be appropriate:

What's your opinion about The Beekeeper?

  • I'd love if one of those were the cover art.

I have an appreciation for The Beekeeper, even though I can't stand to listen to it all the way through, there are some songs I wouldn't want to do without. Then there's a couple I disliked at first but have grown on me, like Jamaica Inn. Garlands is my absolute favorite right now, but I'm not too upset it wasn't on the album as it makes it a litte more special.

  • Finally

Finally somebody understandme, i think BK isnt a bad album , but is her worst, definetly. I hate the choirs, the cover (her fake smile suuucks :/ ), her big dresses, THE NASTY VIDEOS etc. And i looove the live versions with the organ (hotel, black dove, blood roses etc.). I cant understand what was happening with her, in an old interview (2005) she said (i remember) "before this album my husband toldme something...... and now i dont want to be singing all the time about dead and sad things, i dont want to be a cliché". Mark suuucks.
Well, i like the second alternative cover, but im not happy with your tracklist, again: I HATE THE FUCKING CHOIRS
    My personal list is:
    1.original sinsuality (awesome intro)
    2. parasol (i love the lyrics)
    3. tpook
    4. barons of suburbia
    5. mother revolution
    6. the bekeeper
    7. marthas foolsih ginger
    8. toast (i loveit, a very very sad one)
    9. not david bowie
    10. marys of the sea
    11. garlands (one of my fav songs)

i know this list would be a complete shit for the record company, but is just my point of view. At the end BK has amazing songs, full of sadness and feelings (toast and the beekeeper are about her lost brother Michael "take this message to michael") :(
In fact ADP could be better tnah BK but it hasnt the emotional levels that the BK has (garlands).

Yes, you're right. Soemthing about the fact that she had been playing the victim fo a long time.

The live songs with the organ are fucking genious. Hotel from Phoenix is excellent.

The Beekeeper is a good album, but only good. The rest of her albums are amazing!

    My tracklist:

    1. Original Sinsuality
    2. Parasol
    3. Sleeps With Butterflies
    4. Jamaica Inn
    5. Cars and Guitars
    6. Ribbons Undone
    7. Mother Revolution
    8. Barons Of Suburbia
    9. Witness
    10. The Beekeeper
    11. Toast

  • Beekeeper is a good album but it is defo not her best... it kinda seems a bit more 'mainstream' (if you could call it that) than the rest.

I agree it should defo have been shorter as well but there are songs off the album that i listen to a lot. Quite a lot of new Tori stuff takes a while to grow on you as you appreciate the lyrics and almost 'decode' the real meanings but none more so than on this album.

  • I made my own version of TBK inspired by what you guys have said. I thought it'd be easy, but many hold a special place for me, but were left off, like Jamaica Inn, and ireland.

The Beekeeper (With the Awesome first custom cover posted here!)

    1. Original Sinsuality
    2. Parasol
    3. Hoochie Woman
    4. The Power Of Orange Knickers
    5. Witness
    6. Marys Of The Sea
    7. Toast
    8. Sleeps With Butterflies
    9. Sweet The Sting
    10. Martha's Foolish Ginger
    11. The Beekeeper
    12. Goodbye Pisces
    13. Ribbons Undone
    14. Garlands

    Sexbots unite.
  • here's my decimated and re-arranged take on The Beekeeper

    1. The Beekeeper
    2. Witness
    3. Marys of the Sea
    4. Garlands

    :)

  • I think The Beekeeper is okayyyyy, but I would burn ADP in a second.
