Speaking of genres that were discussed earlier, I think New Prog is the best genre to fit Coheed and Cambria. Although, they are more commonly listed as Progressive Rock and Alternative Rock. Sometimes, I've even them listed as Progressive Metal and Alternative Metal as well.

You'd really have to listen to their earlier stuff to hear prog similarities. Their new stuff is somewhat, but not quite.

They are often described as Prog Rock because not only do they have some relatively long songs (when comparing to standard Rock Note: Not post-rock etc which can be in excess of tens of minutes) but also their lyrics and their conceptual ideas. Bands which are Prog Rock don't need to sound just like each other, one might be somewhat heavier. Aimon.

they are prog because some of their songs last 6+ minutes, they use instruments that are not commonly associated with regular rock, etc. thats why they are prog.
