Treasure Hunt

  • Treasure Hunt

OK, this will be a bit more difficult than some games have been...but those of you who like a challenge to your knowledge of Classic Rock will hopefully give it a try. All or a portion of a verse or a chorus from a classic rock song shall be given. The player giving the clue, at their sole descretion, may supply additional clues in the event that our membership struggles with a correct answer. Both the artist and the song title will be required for a correct answer. Since a particular song can appear on multiple albums, the name of the album will be considered insignificant in this game. Of course, since this must be monitored for accuracy, the author of the "clue" should monitor approximately every 12 hours to see any results and to declare a WINNER who shall then supply the next "clue". The first correct answer entered on the thread will be the winner. Hopefully this will catch on and become a popular thread on our Classic Rock forum.

    Here is an example:

"took her out and tried to win her
had a laugh and over dinner
told her I would really like to see her again
got the bill and Rita paid it
took her home and nearly made it
sitting on the sofa with a sister or two"

Of course, this is from LOVELY RITA on the Beatles' Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band album.

IMPORTANT: If you get the correct answers, please select a "clue" that is not too difficult or so easy that everyone will know it immediately. OK, lets play.

    First clue:

    "come on home girl
    he said with a smile
you don't have to love me
and lets get high and wild"

    Good luck.

Heart - Magic Man. One of my favorite songs and best album they ever made.

Lets agree that it is NOT allowed to search lyric sites. Thats considered cheating.

    Next:

I get up at seven, yeah
And I go to work at nine
I got no time for livin
Yes, Im workin all the time

    It seems to me
    I could live my life
A lot better than I think I am
I guess thats why they call me
They call me the workin man

    Answer: Rush - Working Man

    New easy one...

    "It wasn't very large
There was just enough room to cram the drums
In the corner over by the dodge
    It was a fifty-four
    With a mashed up door
    And a cheesy little amp
With a sign on the front said "fender champ"
    And a second hand guitar
It was a stratocaster with a whammy bar"

    Good luck!

  • Frank Zappa - Joe's Garage.

This is going well, lets keep it up !

    Here's the next one:

"its like you're standing in the window of a house nobody lives in and i'm sitting in a car across the way"

Not sure and I refuse to look it up.

    Van Morrison - TB Sheets?

  • Sorry, try again. Hint, its a mainstream classic rock artist and the album was first released in 1974.

OK, maybe this one is harder than I thought.....

lyrics continue with "lets just say, early model Chevrolet"

Dunno. I have to pass. Anyone else?

  • additional lyrics from this highly successful 1974 release:

"its like you're standing in the window
of a house nobody lives in
and I'm sitting in a car across the way
    let's just say
    its an early model Chevrolet
    let's just say
its an warm and windy day
you go and pack your sorrow
    the trash man comes tomorrow
leave it at the curb and we'll just roll away"

This is a solo artist who is well represented in our group. These are the final lyrics of this song.

I'll give this a bit more time before I give another clue.Put on your thinking caps and take a memory pill. I know this has to seem familiar to some members who have surfed through this thread.

OOOOOOOKKKKKKKKK OK ! Final hint: He lived with the early members of The Eagles, co-wrote some music with them but was never officially a member of the band. He still is an active musician.

  • I gave up, looked it up, and then realized that I would have never gotten it. I don't listen to any of his music, anyway.

  • OK...guess its time to end this one.

Answer: Jackson Browne - The Late Show

from the album "Late For The Sky"

maybe this one will be easier:

"hadn't traveled very far when suddenly I saw
three small ships a-sailing off to-wards a distant shore"

I will add more lyrics if no correct answer is given after 30+ hits on the thread. Make me believe ! This is a great song !

    Aargh!

    Gotta pass again :( .

  • Name that tune and the artist:

"Forty thousand headmen couldn't make me change my mind
if I had to take the choice between the deaf man and the blind
i just know where my feet should go and thats enough for me
i turned around and knocked them down and walked across the sea

Hadn't traveled very far when suddenly I saw
three small ships a sailing off toward a distant shore
so lighting up a cigarette I followed in pursuit
a found a secret cave where they obviously stashed the loot

Filling up my pockets even stuffed it up my nose
I must have weight a hundred tons between my head and toes
I ventured forth before the dawn had time to change its mind
and soring high above the clouds I found a golden shrine

Laying down my treasure before the iron gate
quickly rang the bell hoping I hadn't come too late
but someone came along and told me not to waste my time
and when I asked him who he was he said 'just look behind

So I turned around and forty thousand headmen hit the dirt
firing twenty shotguns each and man it really hurt
but luckily for me they had to stop and then reload
and by the time they'd done that I was heading down the road"

Hopefully this one will be one someone knows, The lyrics should be something not immediately known by everyone but yet not TOO obscure:

    "And maybe Marlon Brando
will be there by the fire
we'll sit and talk of Hollywood
and good things there for hire
and the astrodome and the first tepee
    Marlon Brando, Pocahontas and me
    Marlon Brando, Pocahontas and me"

Ha! Got it. Neil Young (& The Crazy Horse) - Pocahontas

    My turn, finally :)

    Theres only one direction in the faces that I see;
Its upward to the ceiling, where the chambers said to be.
Like the forest fight for sunlight, that takes root in every tree.
They are pulled up by the magnet, believing theyre free.

The drummer has enjoyed a good solo career as well ...

Who's playing this game anyway? Just Felix and me or ... ? :)

Full lyrics, now get it right ;) .

    =-=

He returns from his mixed-up memories to the passage he was previously stuck in. this time he discovers a long carpeted corridor.

There is lambswool under my naked feet.
The wool is soft and warm,
    - gives off some kind of heat.
A salamander scurries into flame to be destroyed.
Imaginary creatures are trapped in birth on celluloid.
The fleas cling to the golden fleece,
    Hoping theyll find peace.
Each thought and gesture are caught in celluloid.
Theres no hiding in my memory.
    Theres no room to avoid.

The walls are painted in red ochre and are marked by strange insignia, some looking like a bulls-eye, others of birds and boats. further down the corridor, he can see some people; all kneeling.
Broken sighs and murmurs they struggle, in their slow motion to move towards a wooden door at the end. having seen only the inanimate bodies in the grand parade of lifeless packaging, rael rushe
    Talk to them.

The crawlers cover the floor in the red ochre corridor.
For my second sight of people, theyve more lifeblood than before.
Theyre moving in time to a heavy wooden door,
Where the needles eye is winking, closing in on the poor.
The carpet crawlers heed their callers:
Weve got to get in to get out
Weve got to get in to get out
Weve got to get in to get out.

Whats going on? he cries to a muttering monk, who conceals a yawn and replies its a long time yet before the dawn. a sphinx-like crawler calls his name saying don
K him, the monk is drunk. each one of us is trying to reach the top of the stairs, a way out will await us there. not asking how he can move freely, our hero goes boldly through the door.
D a table loaded with food, is a spiral staircase going up into the ceiling.

    Theres only one direction in the faces that I see;
Its upward to the ceiling, where the chambers said to be.
Like the forest fight for sunlight, that takes root in every tree.
They are pulled up by the magnet, believing theyre free.
The carpet crawlers heed their callers:
Weve got to get in to get out
Weve got to get in to get out
Weve got to get in to get out.

Mild mannered supermen are held in kryptonite,
And the wise and foolish virgins giggle with their bodies glowing
    Bright.
    Through a door a harvest feast is lit by candlelight;
Its the bottom of a staircase that spirals out of sight.
The carpet crawlers heed their callers:
Weve got to get in to get out
Weve got to get in to get out
Weve got to get in to get out.

The porcelain mannikin with shattered skin fears attack.
The eager pack lift up their pitchers - they carry all they lack.
The liquid has congealed, which has seeped out through the crack,
And the tickler takes his stickleback.
The carpet crawlers heed their callers:
Weve got to get in to get out
Weve got to get in to get out
Weve got to get in to get out.

  • I love the lambs' wool line... think I use it as a quote somewhere!

    Genesis - Carpet Crawlers

"Laugh till you cry, hug in the rain; cherish the moment, it won't come again. Love while you can, forgive but don't forget; life's too short to live with regret."

    Excellent.

Well, almost. You are supposed to give us new challenge as explained in the first post :).

  • LOL I thot I was to wait until you confirmed my answer!

Ok, new challenge then, one that was given to me lately:

Why ask how I feel how does it look to you?
I feel hook, line and sinker, I lost my captain and my crew
I'm standing on the landing, there's no one there but me
That's where you'll find me, looking out on the deep blue sea

This hotel bar is full of people, the piano man is really laying it down
The old bartender is a high as steeple, so why tonight should I wear a frown?

The joint is jumping all around me and my mood is really not in style
Right now the blues want to surround me but I'll break out after a while

"Laugh till you cry, hug in the rain; cherish the moment, it won't come again. Love while you can, forgive but don't forget; life's too short to live with regret."
  • Ok, a little assistance perhaps? ;)

The artist is one of my favorites and the rest of lyrics go like this:

This hotel bar is full of people,
The piano man is really laying it down,
The old bartender is as high as a steeple,
So why tonight should I wear a frown?
The joint is jumpin' all around me,
And my mood is really not in style,
Right now the blues flock to surround me,
But I'll break out after a while.

Yes I'm a million miles away,
    I'm a million miles away,
    I'm sailing like a driftwood,
    On a windy bay,
    On a windy bay.

    I'm a million miles away,
    I'm a million miles away,
But I'm sailing like a driftwood,
    On a windy bay,
    On a windy bay.

    Why ask how I feel,
Well, how does it look to you?
I fell hook, line and sinker,
Lost my captain and my crew.

    I'm standing on the landing,
There's no one there but me,
    That's where you'll find me,
Looking out on the deep blue sea.

There's a song on the lips of everybody,
There's a smile all around the room,
    There's conversation overflowing,
But I sit here with the blues.

This hotel bar has lost all its people,
The piano man has caught the last bus home,
The old bartender just collapsed in the corner,
Why I'm still here, I just don't know,
    I don't know.

    I'm a million miles away,
    A million miles away,
I'm sailing like a driftwood on a windy bay,
    On a windy bay.

    I'm a million miles away,
    A million miles away,
I'm sailing like a driftwood on a windy bay,
    Send me away

Rory Gallagher - Million Miles Away

I would have known from your first post but didn't have to time to visit until now.

    New hunt :D

I said baby mama, I dont know your name
But I said baby, sugar I can play your game
Every night when we leave the hall
    I see you hanging around
You wanna ride in my big black car baby
    Wanna go uptown

  • Lynyrd Skynyrd - On the Hunt !

    try this one......

my love is in league with the freeway
its fashion will ride as the cities fly by
and the tail-lights dissolve in the coming of night
and the questions in thousands take flight
my love is the miles in the waiting
the eyes that just stare and glance at the clock
and the secret that burns and the pain that won't stop

From one of my favorite albums of all times, and in my mind undoubtly the best album from that artist/group/band.

    You should have seen him
Lying alone in helpless silence in the night
    You should have seen him
You would have seen his eye reflecting in the light
