which camel album should I buy first?

  • Dont listen to allmusic man:) I would start with Mirage, make my way up to Moonmadness, then go for their first record before buying Snow Goose and I Can see Your House From Here (just because of the song Ice its worth it, one of their best songs). After that I would probably jump up to Rajaz which is an excellent album!

    Start with mirage, the snow goose or moonmadness.

    Mirage has more rocking parts.
    Moonmadness is more mellow and spacy.
    The snow goose is an instrumental symphonic concept album, it has more ambient and/or short tunes than the other 2.

    I prefer the 2 above, but snow goose is more famous
    (for its structure, I guess)

    Should start with ECHOES. This copliation will give you a good sense of what to choose first; but if I have to choose one it would be MIRAGE.

    Mirage, Snow Goose or Moonmadness, all the same to me. If you want something relaxing, beautiful and really lovely, go and buy Snow Goose right away. Easy to get into.

    Early 'Camel' albums are very... i would say specific and hard. Albums like 'The Harbour of Tears' and 'Stationary Traveller' or 'Dust And Dreams' are much lighter (for me) and i think they're the best for start. I started from "Stationary Traveller' and then buying some older albums.
    It's the best way to learn 'Camel' and don't get shy ;)
    But it's only my opinion of course.

  • regular or lite beer?

    Hard -> Mirage, Moonmadness
    Lite -> Stationary Traveller
    Both -> Pressure Points

  • Moonmadness is the most accessible IMO. And their best. :)

  • Moonmadness, The Snow Goose, Harbour of Tears, Rajaz.

    If you're familiar with the 70's sound (mellotron etc.) I would suggest any of the first four. If you're more into modern sound I think Rajaz or A Nod and a Wink.

    The live albums! "A Live Record" gives you a valuable overview over what this band has produced. It brings back so many memories from the time I was technician for our onw band and we listen to A Live Album endlessly on our nightly travels through the netherlands.

    Oh, that depends on your style. I would suggest starting with two albums to get an idea of the band... One from the first four albums, and one from the last four. My suggestions are: Rajaz and Moonmadness, or Rajaz and The Snow Goose.

  • either Moonmadness or Mirage.....

    enjoy the good things…
  • Mirage - then Moonmadness -
