National Theatre Live, Great Britain’s groundbreaking project which broadcasts the best of British theatre direct from London to movie theaters around the world, is coming to U.S. movie theaters! Upcoming broadcasts include Arnold Wesker’s The Kitchen on November 3. Set in a 1950s London kitchen on an enormous West End restaurant, this blackly funny production puts the work place center stage. “The Kitchen” will broadcast live at 7 p.m. (local time) Thursday, Nov. 3 in participating movie theaters. For more information and to purchase tickets, go to www.fathomevents.com.

Anything good out there, guys? I caught 'Passing Strange' on PBS but am a little afraid of the soundtrack. Any reviews?

Btw, the Actors' Fund of America Benefit Recording is so overdone it's unlistenable.

Finally my head is clear. Went to the Kennedy Center (twice) to see Spring Awakening. I'm very glad I went. After a couple years of listening to the soundtrack, and mentally filling in the story line (you do that too, right?) seeing the actual performance put the songs into context. I actually fell in love with the cast recording all over again (this is sick, but I HAD to listen to "Those You've Known" before going to sleep - for two months!). I got the chance to see Chess (all star cast) and Company (Broadway cast) on my local PBS station. Chess was...interesting...and intriguing...and (okay - running out of metphors for 'boring'). Company got off to a slow and confusing start but once I understood the concept, was actually enjoyable. Very few notable songs, though, with the exception of "Being Alive" (fantastic!).

Okay, guys. I'm looking for a new recording to get me through the spring. I've been getting by on Les Miserables with a little bit of The Wiz and Godspell thrown in. Any suggestions? What's fesh and hot?

In The Heights is a great musical but Wicked is still better. And I liked Brooklyn, Once Upon a Time blew me out of the water.

Okay - I wasn't going to allow myself to get attached to any "original cast's" recordings this summer...and along came 'In The Heights' (dammittt!) This album is Hot!!! The self-titled opening number is loud, busy, involved, energetic and desperate and captures everyday life in Washington Heights,NY better than any photo or video capture could hope to.

Okay - 'Brooklyn' was a bit of a bust. The storyline was a little weak and the music was just okay...with the exception of 'Raven'. this was the only standout song (think of 'Harlem Blues' from Mo' Better Blues). It's dark yet hopeful and the delivery is fantastic. I'm moving on to 'Avenue Q' - Muppets singing about racism, unrequited love and internet porn? - I'm hooked!

Gotta add this tip: For all of those who love clear and pure vocals, you have got to download Billy Porter's 'On The Corner of Broadway and Soul'. He mixes up show tunes with r&b and Gospel at a live benefit performance in NYC. The best songs are 'King of The World', 'World's Gonaa Have To Wait' and 'Time' (you may remember this last one from 'So You Think You Can Dance' on TV - I've been listenin

Okay, guys - I'm a little late on this one, but I'm checking out 'Brooklyn'. Yeah, it's a couple of years old but I'm going into this with my eyes open...wish me luck. Btw, can you believe they're putting 'My Fair Lady' out there again?...and why do I want to see it?!

I bought Spring Awakening right after the Tony Awards, too, and listened to it and almost nothing else for several weeks. I love it; I think it's the freshest thing on Broadway in years.

It's about a bunch of horny teens at a German Boarding School moaning about academics, social pressures, molestation and...masturbation!

Is no one listening to Spring Awakening? 'The Bitch of Living' is worth the CD price, alone. It got my attention when a Spring/medley was performed on the Tony awards.
