    Desert Island Discs

Ok, Since this is apparently about the music...
Instead of sitting & complaining about how old we are.
How about one of those annoying forum threads that just provides endless lists of useless information for trainspotters with no life to paw over?
Ladies & Gentlemen I present you with: Desert Island Discs.
Have a think about all those albums you just can't live without
and give us all a few recommendations to listen to.
Not necessarily "My top 10" or whatever, just some albums you really can't live without & perhaps why..

  • OK. Here goes. No great surprises or obscure stuff from me I'm afraid!

    The Smiths- Louder Than Bombs

    Pink Floyd- The Wall
U2- All that you can't leave behind
    R.E.M.- Automatic for the people

hmm. so hard to choose... in no particular order i guess...

Verve - A Storm In Heaven
Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon
The Smiths - Hatful of Hollow
Flaming Lips - The Soft Bulletin
    My Bloody Valentine - Loveless
Boards of Canada - Music Has The Right To Children
    Spiritualized - Lazer Guided Melodies
Eno / Byrne - My Life In The Bush of Ghosts
Talking Heads - Remain In Light
Stone Roses - The Stone Roses
7% Solution- All About Satellites and Spaceships

hmm. i guess i forgot the why.

well, verve, stone roses, 7% soln, MBV and spiritualized really hit the high notes of shoegazing.

talking heads and eno/byrne - these guys were so far ahead of their time it isnt even funny.

dark side of the moon... i think everyone here can relate to "run rabbit run". i certainly missed the starting gun!

BoC are amazing and i don't think i'd be stranded without their entire discography. same with flaming lips.

and of course the smiths. i don't think there is a single bad smiths song. morrissey/marr were an incredible combination.

  • Intriguing, let's see I don't think I will stop at 10, but we'll see what I find:

Opeth - Blackwater Park, brilliant, dark and complex
    Capercaillie - Sidewaulk, traditional, beautiful
    VNV Nation - Empires, electronic
Sam Roberts - We Were Born in a Flame, Chill & rock out
John Legend - Get Lifted, groovy & soulful
Steve Miller Band - Book of Dreams, okay, I like to chill.
U2 - War, hard to choose between this and Joshua Tree actually.
Barenaked Ladies - Gordon, lots of fun, catchy songs.
Led Zeppelin - II, bluesy & gutsy
Cake - Fashion Nugget, some more fun
Depeche Mode - Violator, keep those neurons firing.
Pearl Jam - Ten, not one bad song.
The Beatles - Rubber Soul, a glimpse of brilliance
AC/DC - Back in Black, rockin'

Wow, its very difficult to stop, but I will just end it there.

How full of yourself do you have to be to post to forums that you started? Hmm... 'bout this much!

    Here's a few, far from everything I'd want but it's a start.

Janes Addiction - Nothing's Shocking. Never got sick of this.
The Cure - Disintegration. Or this.
Leftfield - Leftism. Everyone should have a copy.
Ben Harper - The will to live.
Died Pretty - Every brilliant eye. Dark & colourful with fluffy bits & chaos just like any bad trip should be.
Massive Attack - Blue Lines. Everyone should have a copy.
Andy Prieboy - Sins of our fathers. I try not to play this too much coz I don't ever want to get sick of it.
Salmonella Dub - Inside the dub plates. I've tried playing this too much & I'm still not sick of it.
Pink Floyd - Animals. Insert Floyd album here.. My fav..
Talking Heads - Remain in light. Geek Funky!
Midnight Oil - Place without a postcard. Abject nostalga on my part.

Let me think on it and post later...I don't know if I can come up with just 10! lol

OK... I'll play... 10 is hard though. There are several artists on this list that I would be lost if I didn't have their entire collection. But here goes. This is in no particular order...

Abbey Road - I think it's their best collection
Back In Black - My first "REAL" rock album
The Big Come Up - I love the raw feel of the music
The Final Cut - Can make me weep in the right mood
    O - I really dig his work
    Led Zeppelin IV - Stairway!
X&Y - My fav Coldplay album (but they are all really good, IMO)
This Way - I think she is an incredible songwriter
The Distance To Here - Soulful, spiritual and rocks!
Surfacing - Reminds me of past things

    yeah...

i think 10 albums is pretty hard.

dognix seems to have disappeared so i'll declare that 15 or 20 albums is okay, though if you want to put the effort into just 10, thats okay too.
