  • Hi guys - I'm another first time poster.

I only started buying my own records in the 80s - before then I relied on taping songs from the radio - but I remember my first purchases very well.

33' vinyl (at Kmart probably in 1983)
David Bowie - Let's Dance / The Police - Regatta de Blanc
    Cassette (Christmas present 1982)
    Rush - Signals
CD - (I'm having trouble with this one but it must have been at University in 1989 or 1990)
Yes - The Yes Album / Pink Floyd - Obscured by Clouds

  • embarrassing in the extreme, but it was Abba, only not really Abba, but a instrumental knock sold at the supmarket, probably Abba by Moog. 1975. I had no understanding. Give me a break. I was only 7.

  • Hi all, I'm new to the group and hope to totally mess with the charts. Muahahaha! Actually I don't tend to listen to any one artist, so I can't really hope to make a dent in them.

I hated cassettes but I think the first music I ever bought myself was a cassette of Aerosmith's "Live! Bootleg" in 4th grade. My friend had a boombox and we listened to "Toys in the Attic" all the time on the playground. I still remember my father embarrassing the hell out of me in the record store, reading song titles out loud. "Big Ten Inch..." Uggh! That's probably why I ended up with "bootleg" instead of "Toys..." What a shame!

My first vinyl was undoubtedly Beatles. I think I took all my Christmas money one year after seeing "Yellow Submarine" and bought The red and blue compilations, Help, and Yellow Submarine. I'm pretty sure it was the same trip to the record store in which my mom bought Billy Joel's The Stranger, Piano Man, and 52nd Street. I loved those too.

My parents bought Fleetwood Mac's "Rumors" and the soundtrack to the movie "Grease" on 8-track and we totally wore those out.

The first CD I ever bought was Yes' "Close to the Edge". I was a freshman in college (1986) and it was my favorite album ever.

Amazing how our tastes can change.
