theb0x The best book for learning about his music is Johann Sebastian Bach : The Culmination of an Era by Karl Geiringer. ($10 used on amazon.com)... and the best for learning about Bach the man (as well as his music) would be the (relatively) new Johann Sebastian Bach : The Learned Musician by Christoph Wolff. ... however, none of these books are as satisfying as they should be. i'm still searching!

If you really want to get into it, definitely go with a couple of books. Bach has long been viewed as less personally interesting as some of the other more frequently written about composers, but that perspective is slowly changing.
