  • Introductions and musical stuff I do...

    Hi;

I've been on last.fm for the last month or two and I thought I'd join a few groups to get a better feel of the communities that exist here.

If you're interested, I make chilled/ambient/downtempo music under the name mara's torment and you can hear some of it here at last.fm at http://www.last.fm/label/mara%27s%20torment/

I also run an online CD boutique called ping things that specializes in independant electronic work associated with the AMBiENT PiNG event here in Toronto, mostly ambient, abstract, improv, space music, that kind of thing. If you're interested you can check it out at http://www.pingthings.com

Last but not least, I run a live365 station called AMBiENT PiNG RADiO that features a variety of ambient, downtempo and chilled music. You can give it a listen at http://www.live365.com/stations/marastorment

Looking forward to meeting some of you in the near future and hearing about your own musical interests and pursuits!

Oddly, we'd like to start with highly suggesting Rik's (Mara's Torment) musick a couple of posts previous to this one.

Austere has been making a variety of ambient and outsider musicks since 1998 in the Pacific Northwest of the U.S. You can find information and such from our Web site at:

    http://austere.org

You can also find reviews and links to song samples at:
    http://austere.org/reviews.shtml

Lastly, you can find most of our CDs for sale at Hypnos:
    http://hypnos.com

Some CDs and both of the Austere side-projects, The Mystifying Oracle (http://austere.org/oracle) and Freq. Magnet (http://austere.org/freqmagnet) - pronounced "freak magnet" via CD Baby, which also includes many song samples, at:
    http://www.cdbaby.com/all/austere

We too are looking forward to discovering other musick here and meeting more mates along the way. Cheers!

    Hi,

You can find my music on my label page here on Last.FM, the stuff that's up here is mostly ambient/experimental.

Perceptie is the latest album based around loop based reprocessing of older pieces, and additions. Extracted Live is a live piece i did at home with Live, Early is a bit older and different, some little electronic shuffles there. I'm working on new pieces for perceptie 2 and extracted 2 at the moment.

See my signature for links! :)

  • hi.

i compose ambient / noise / drone music, mostly on my laptop, using buzz, granulab, and coagula (pretty much still living in the windows98 era)

    http://erstwhile.net/audio/snowday/

is a full album of instrumentals, sort of influenced by eno's "music for airports" and my bloody valentine.

i'm releasing this and some other stuff here on last.fm, but it's all available for d/l on erstwhile.net/audio/

    thanks for listening!

Hello. One of my musical project is Orbo. We just do all kinds of music that we like to do, but ambient certainly is a major direction for us.

I made an ambient track lately out a chord progression that I recorded the other day on clean electric guitar. I fed it into different effects, a bit wet, looped, and mixed and altered the whole thing manually in realtime. Turned out to be quite relaxing.

    TocarWet Roof (Clearance Remix)

Then last year a friend of mine remixed a sketch of the clean intro of our next longer track that we are composing. It is called "Into the Orkan Remix". It features some rainfall and samples of acoustic drums.

A third track that is kinda ambient is called "Suns". It contains a synth track made by a friend and an underlying drum solo by our drummer.

The three tracks are free music and available for download at orbo.ws.

    aural exploits

    Just an intro really...

I have done lots of stuff mainly from Dj ing always tried to spin stuff that is a little left of centre.

Started using my Last.fm space & pages to finally get off my a** and put some stuff out. Starting with a series of nice mixes for the car, bed, bath or whatever.

Like to dabble in PHP etc too so use some of that as well.

  • Profile: Psonikadia

Psonikadia is the current musical expression from Nick Aitchison. Previous incarnations being Varja and Qb. Philosophically Psonikadia developed out of the void, meaning the music is not pre-conceived. It appears from mind. And is then transferred to other minds hopefully bring a brief moment of happiness. Peace through sound. In experiencing peace, an aspiring wish takes seed…
From beatless journeys of textures to glitched breaks over filtered melodies, creating a space between.

Nick Aitchison lives in the beautiful city of Brighton & Hove on the South Coast of England. Originally from the Derbyshire Peak District, Nick trained in Manchester as a sound engineer at the prestigious School of Sound Recording home to 808 states Graham Massey. Nick then engineered for Spacehead both in the studio and live, touring extensively around England whilst still honing his talents as Varja, appearing in the ’98 In the City festival with Coldplay, Elbow and Muse.
Nick has been working on the Psonikadian project for the past couple of years developing the sound to the beauty it is today. Inspiration for the pieces comes from the peaceful coastal life in Brighton – the sea, the rolling green hills, the realization of living on an island and the sites and sound of the most special place. Recently Psonikadia has appeared on Radio 1’s Rob da Bank show as the best unsigned act of the week.

  • Mank

Mank is the Welsh project of Benjamin Powell. Based in Bangor in North Wales. Releases are all free and put out in down-loadable form on the Mankymusic website. The other artist on the label is Micrographia (band) which Ben also plays in.

Ben Powell has been recording as Mank since 1998 releasing home made CDs on his Mankymusic label. The Mankymusic sound has developed substantially over from the sample based electronica of Ecaz Nous to the deep analogue ambient of Madarch via the post rock guitars of Micrographia.

Mank has received extensive play on Radio Wales including two half hour mankymixes reminiscent of the ISDN gigs done by the Future Sound of London. In 2003 the Mank remixes of the Bodlon single were release on the R-Bennig record label. Ben caused a splash in 2003 with the unprecedented debut EP from his band Micrographia which was demo of the week in org magizine. Tracks from the Madarch were played on national radio 1 by Rob Da Bank in July 2005. In October 2006 Cephalization was released and played in full on by Adam Walton on Radio Wales, who described Ben as 'one of the most important electronic artists in Wales'.

    Discography:

    * Ecaz Nous (2001 Mankymusic, mankymusic001)
    * Death Studies (2002 Mankymusic, mankymusic002)

I'm on a project with 2 other guys called Easily Embarrassed

I'm unsure as to what kind of ambient style our tracks are, but we get a lot of our ideas from the psybient/psychill genre, but also include elements we like ourselves, which are probably more common in New Age like stuff I guess. I can't know for sure though, as I don't listen styles like that myself :)

If you are bored and feel like listening to something new, please try some of our pieces. Any feedback is much appreciated of course ;)

    Thanks!

    UNIT-E

Saw this group while browsing and thought people might be interested in some of the stuff done we have done.. Hope you don't mind.

We aren't inherently Ambient related per-say, but my album (which also includes two tracks by sharp) Vanishing Point, and sharp's new album As Days Get Shorter, both are very soundscape driven.

All tracks are streamable from last.fm, and two from each have mp3 downloads as well.

My own album Vanishing Point is also available as a CD from cdbaby(gotta love cdbaby) -

    Vanishing Point CD

I of course want you to buy it, just so I can say someone has ;), but you don't have to because it it is in fact available under the Creative Common by-sa 2.5 license, and is as such free for copy(and remix, and use however you want) and I have free ogg's around on my website.... somewhere, though I can't guarantee you can find them in the mess (it used to be organized but the old server was lost, and I haven't finished re-uploading/organizing.... 6 months later...)

oh and As Days Get Shorter will be available on cdbaby too... if they ever get around too putting up a page for it.

(In case you wondered... UNIT-E is the Label name we have given ourselves, but the first few albums were released with it as the Artist name as well.. In part because we hadn't solidified what we were at the time, and in the case of my album.. because I couldn't think up anything clever to call myself as an artist, and "Andrew Johnson" seemed a bit... )
