Unfortunately, the linked artist list is limited to 200 artists, therefore, I gonna try to keep my list updated by posting bands in here in the shoutbox or delete some lesser important artists ... to sad its limited to these 200 artists, there are a hell more of great african tunes ...

dear bouleau, you posted a request where to start with afrobeat, I gonna try to give you an answer: for old african afrobeat you can check out: tony allen from nigeria (the drummer of fela kuti), Orchestre Poly-Rythmo de Cotonou (from benin), manu dibango (from cameroon), orlando julius (from nigeria) and just check out some sampler like "ghana soundz" or the "nigeria special" series, modern afrobeat like antibalas afrobeat orchestra (united states), femi kuti (nigeria, son of fela, quite recommendable), afrodizz (from canada), the budos band (united states), Chicago Afrobeat Project (united states), ... I just hope that helps a bit, there a lot of bands to discover, that's for sure ... greetz from germany ...

Where to start? I've listened to Fela Kuti recently and fallen completely in love with "Gentleman". Although, it is quite another category, I also appreciate Sun Ra. Might Ariya Astrobeat Arkestra be the orchestra for me? Furthermore, I am fond of Mulatu Astatke and the Ethiopiques-series in generel. What artists/orchestras might suit my taste and be the next step in my afrobeat listening habits?
