  • "Why are there no honest-to-god post-rock bands with vocals?"

Most (if not all) of the original early-90s British post-rock bands had vocals. In other words, REAL post-rock has vocals.

  • Did anyone mention Gregor Samsa?

Vessels :D perfect mix of instrumentals and vocals, in Helioscopes (their latest album) there is only 4 or 5 tracks that feature vocals, but it makes each song so much more powerful, not to mention they are distributed throughout the album really well.

Why are there no honest-to-god post-rock bands with vocals? Every example is a "sort of" post-rock influenced band. It's not like it couldn't be done, or done well. Yet there are 20 million post-rock bands, and they're all instrumental.

I guess for another "sort of" band, I always thought of Homesick For Space as post-rock with vocals.

I know this was posted ages ago, but it's a totally bullshit statement when you consider half the bands mentioned would be fairly standard post-rock without the vocals and since it's classified as using traditional instruments for non-traditional purposes; it's pretty much post-rock, regardless.

For the guy who wanted post-rock with hardcore: Envy are the obvious choice, but City Of Caterpillar pretty much started the whole sound off in the 90's. It was a natural progression from the quiet/loud emo sound played by bands like Indian Summer in the early 90's that already used similar dynamics and crescendos. Bands like Sed Non Satiata have really honed this sound recently.

If you enjoy harsh vocals, you might want to listen to Light Bearer and Envy.
