The 13th Floor Elevators

  • The 13th Floor Elevators

    Let's Discuss.

  • OK... I'll start with a few random facts:

    - everybody should own at least one copy of "Easter Everywhere"
    - Roky Erickson is a genius
    - "Bull of the Woods" is underrated
    - Cheater Slicks made a great version of "Roller Coaster"
    - Powell Saint-John, who co-wrote several songs for the 13th Floor Elevators, also wrote "Bye Bye Baby" for Janis Joplin

    That's all for now...

Nice list :) I´m not right person for those type of discussion, ´cause I know "13th" for a very short time, but I really like them....especially their crazy music bases :)

  • Read the biography 'Eye Mind' by Paul Drummond, its got pretty much everything. Heavy man, this band has been 'elevating' my mind for nearly a decade. They invented Psychedelic rock through daily consumption of lsd with the guidance of guru & electric jug player Tommy Hall, who now is the spitting image of Gandalf & lives in a cave. Reverend Roger Roky Kynard Erickson is now a little worse for wear, he's had a rough ride. I really rate some of his music post asylum- check out 'Bloody Hammer' for some quality lyrics.

  • -bull of the woods is completely underrated!
-ooh i cant wait to read eye mind, i just ordered it from amazon.
-roky erickson & the aliens are fantastic, the repetition can get tiresome in some songs, but completely brilliant overall.
13th floor elevators = instant bonding material. yes? yes.

Do you know any album which sounds similar or maybe better than 'The Evil One' by Roky and the Aliens?

  • First heard them on a Bootleg, the music was haunting, Roky's voice was like Neil's voice on Tonight's the Night and Lennon on Plastic Ono Band, just haunting and beautifal all at once. Got the first two cd's, have yet to hear Bull in the Woods. Kinda like Two Headed Dog, one of Roky's later songs.

I have the bootleg. It was the bonus cd of 'The Evil One'. It was a radio appearance. I don't like the elevators that much.

  • I Have Always Been Here Before: The Roky Erickson Anthology - this 43 songs compilation have great sound quality.

Like the weathered stones you shelter behind
You are a moument of your very own

  • From what song is that last quote?

Please don't talk to me I fall in love so easy
