Might I suggest that this data is used to re-order the plugins page, since currently there's an Amiga plugin at the top!

If you are about to/have hit 100,000 accounts, and the plug-in stats add up to ~20,000, what do the remaining 80,000 people do? Just curious.

Telekenesis. They psychically change the bits on the hard drive platters of the database server, using only the power of their minds.

Ah, maybe that explains the recent crashes. Some people either don't know the strength of their powers or they are not very well trained and they send the wrong signals.

The Wired article stated that many people have built up sizable profiles. Just out of curiosity (and realizing it's not a contest, and also realizing this is constantly changing), could a similar chart be taken of the ranges of sizes of profiles?

how about a percent breakdown on how many people have more than x ammount of songs

    like for example

    001-0010 -1%
    011-0100 -30%
    101-0500 -50%
    501-1000 -10%
    1001+ ----9%

This is number of profiles, and hence will be skewed. Apologies for the uneven intervals. Size is the number of songs listened in last.fm and audioscrobbler.

    Size | Amount
    0 | 143828
    1-49 | 22629
    50-99 | 3704
    100-499 | 9680
    500-999 | 4335
    1000-2999 | 6388
    3000-4999 | 2041
    5000-6999 | 878
    7000-9999 | 565
    10000-49999 | 442

    Largest profile size is 40836

Thanx, Russ. The numbers do give an indication where users are. How many of the zero to 49 accounts are abandoned, I wonder? I will interesting to see a comparison in 4 - 6 months time.

I've only just found this but.

Any chance of drawing that plugin popularity chart as a graph on the statistics page on a regular basis?

    I didn't do it.

I'm assuming this is the song count, correct? I know there were other things discussed in this thread, so I don't know if they're linked.

  • Size is the song count per profile, yeah, and Amount the number of users with that many songs in their profiles.

    -Scott

  • Then what about joffeman? He has like 78000 songs.

Look at the date on the post, you'll note that the stats posted there are from several months ago... There are several with more than that max number now I believe.

For example they're at ~250k now although obviously that's a special case...

    You mean 25K. ;)

No, I actually meant 250k. It's wrong but I originally looked at it wrong as well and that is what I meant at the time. Would be silly to just let some facts get in the way of making a point.

  • HAHAHA, yes. So is someone going to update these numbers, so we see where the stats are right now?

OK as you might have noticed we changed how we record these stats on Friday when we moved to Java - we now store plugin id and version in seperate columns as opposed to combined like before. So I reset everyone who had the old values, so these are purely stats from Friday:

    last=# select lastscrobplugin, count(*) from users group by lastscrobplugin order by count(*) desc;
    lastscrobplugin | count
    -----------------+--------
    wa2 | 17667
    itw | 5518
    wmp | 2920
    osx | 1846
    foo | 1823
    xms | 591
    ark | 533
    qcd | 205
    jmc | 74
    rbx | 39
    slm | 27
    tst | 9
    shk | 4
    mdn | 3
    bmp | 3
    mpd | 2
    noa | 2
    pte | 1
    123 | 1

179433 registered users have never used a Scrobbler plugin, and 31387 users haven't submitted since last Friday.

I'll make a proper graph of these at some point, it's easy enough now.

    That's awesome, thanks Russ... think we can get one breaking down the mass of profiles by the # of songs played, again? :}

I can see this updated chart being top-heavy with the profiles stuffed with spam or bug submissions.
