iTunes 8.1 : Problem with directories selected for scrobbling

    Hi all,

I've just upgraded to iTunes 8.1 and spotted a small issue with the desktop software (version 1.5.2.38918).
All my music is stored on G drive (Local HDD). LFM client is set to scrobble only songs from G drive.
Since the iTunes 8.1 upgrade, it will not play any song from the drive G saying 'Won't scrobble: track is in directory set to not scrobble' even if the drive is correctly selected in the settings and btw I tried also to uninstall/reinstall the LFM software.

To make it work, I had to select the drive G but also the drive C !!!!

    Quite weird indeed ...

Thanks for any help/info on this.

    Fabrice

  • Same problem even when I use the C drive for music.

  • I have a similar problem with 8.1, the last.fm app doesn't scrobble any new tracks i've added to 8.1 despite the scrobbling settings being set up to scrobble the entire iTunes music directory (which iTunes didn't change after the .1 update)

I have the same problem since the update. It is really weird. I discover that not C is importanted. It is importanted the allow the directory where the software is installed.

I had the same problem, but my music is on an external drive. Once I updated to 8.1 I had to check drive C to scrobble to get it to scrobble from the external drive.

I guess iTunes is somehow masking the source of the file now? It'd be interesting to know if this is still a problem for people who have iTunes installed on a drive other than C.

edit: I just played around with the scrobbling folders a bit more and found that you only need C:\Program Files to be set to scrobble. I don't have audio files in Program Files so I don't care to find the specific folder in there needs to be scrobbled for everything to work properly, but it wasn't the iTunes install folder when I tried that one.

It is the last.fm folder that works. But this is horrible. Because now my songs from the ipod he doesnt recognize anymore

  • My problem is the reverse:

I set everything to scrobble except for music in a specific folder. For example, all my music is on my HDD in "G:\Music" and I do not want to scrobble "G:\Music\Podcasts"

This worked until iTunes 8.1 update.

    Thanks,
    Josh

I'm having the same problem as whelchelphd. All my music is scrobbling fine but my settings are set to not scrobble from my Podcast folder. But when I play podcasts, the last.fm client scrobbles them anyway.

I was also experiencing this problem. All my music, which is on a separate drive (D:) would show up in Last.fm as "'Won't scrobble: track is in directory set to not scrobble' ". First I tried reinstalling the itunes plugin using the last.fm plugin installer. This had no effect after restarting both itunes and last.fm.

After that I uninstalled the last.fm software using their uninstaller I then went and downloaded a fresh copy of the last.fm site. It installed and reacquired the proper plugins. Once I started up itunes and last.fm everything seems to be working again.

    Hopefully this helps...

    I'd the same no-scrobbling problem after installing iTunes 8.1 ... :-(

Then I've disabled all folder in "Tools / Options / Scrobbling" on the "Scrobble directorys" section. Finally re-enabled the "D:\MP3" path where I have all my music collection.

    Now everything is ok !

    Sob! It's broken again...
So I've see in some forum's threads to enable all "C:\Programs files\.." directories too !

    Now everything is ok !

Apple stuff is really problematic, in Windows every time that I update this crapware software I must delete the shortcuts to it and create them again because Apple insists in rename the .exe.

Now I'm having trouble with the scrobbling like everybody is reporting here, I follow the recomendation of bawigga and nothing happens, but then I've added C:\Program Files\.." and it works just fine as mackl3y said.

I supossed that now iTunes make something with the music inside it's own directory, so the music could not being played directly from the real source, as I said before... iTunes is getting crappy as it get updated... Apple's developer are getting in the worng direction...

Thanks for everybody for your comments!

    Same problem here.

The Last.fm app tells me "Won't scrobble: track is in directory set to not scrobble" despite the face that the directory in which the MP3 resides is clearly checked under Tools > Options > Scrobbling. I have the same issue whether I check entire drives or only sub-dirs. This is with iTunes 8.0.1.

Toad_BE has the correct workaround. You must select the C drive in order for Last.fm to scrobble correctly. Which doesn't make sense, because all of my MP3s are on the D drive. My guess is that Last.fm is looking at C:\Documents and Settings\Username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music Library.xml rather than the actual MP3 files.
