    Scrobbling and iTunes not working

Scrobbling just won't work. When I start iTunes the Last.fm scrobbler starts, but the songs I listen to don't show up on my profile page. I've tried everything mentioned in the "Problems Scrobbling? READ THIS" topic, including reinstalling both iTunes and the Scrobbler, but it hasn't helped. Listening to Last.fm radio works, though, so I don't think anything's wrong with my internet connection or firewall.

Has anyone got any ideas what could be the cause? Or have I completely misunderstood this whole scrobbling thing? D:

    Operating system: Windows XP
    Media player: iTunes, version 8.0.2.20
    Last.fm Scrobbler, version 1.5.2.38918
    iTunes plugin, version 3.0.2.0

  • Does the client say it's scrobbling the songs? Because I'm having a problem with them, too, and it's not saying anything about what I'm listening to in the client.

  • this program is a heap of fucking shit

there seems to be a bug

that when you play the same tune multiple times it doesn't scrobble.

No, it doesn't. It just says "Hello riae, enter an artist or tag to start listening to Last.fm radio..." etc. I don't know what it should look like, it always looks like that when I listen to something on iTunes.

I don't think it's because of the bug ithinkx mentioned, since it doesn't scrobble the songs I listen to for the first time, either.

That's exactly what mine is doing. :-\

@riae & Stormfire: It sounds like your iTunes plug-in isn't sending any information to the Last.fm program. Which is weird, because if starting iTunes also makes the client start up, it sounds like the plug-in is active.

It's (very) unlikely, but have you managed to accidentally exclude your music folders from scrobbling?

Do you have any other media players installed on your computers? If so, it might be worth testing them out (if they're working, it probably pinpoints the problem as being something iTunes-related, if they're not then it must be something in the client)

If you're having problems with the website/program, you should try explaining the problems, that way somebody might be able to help. Going around posting it "is a heap of fucking shit" or telling people to "boycotrt" it because it is "worst then microsoft" (whatever that's supposed to mean) is a complete waste of your time (and of the time of anybody who has the misfortune to read it).

    Nope, they're all checked.

It seems like it's got something to do with iTunes - I just tried playing music with Windows Media Player and it worked fine. I wonder if using iTunes 7 would help... I just don't know where to get it any more.

//Found a workaround and downloaded iSproggler, now everything works fine. Would still like to know why this happens, though.

This seems to have worked for me, too. Thanks riae :)

    Hi,

I'm on a mac running os x 10.4.11 and for the last few days scrobbling with itunes has not worked for me either. I just tried scrobbling with an alternate player (Cog) and that is also not working.

The song titles are showing up on the Lastfm desktop icon thing at the bottom, but they aren't scrobbling or showing up as "now playing" on my list... And I tried using both Windows and iTunes. :[

[SOLVED] I should've checked the FAQ page thing. I had forgotten I changed my password. :]

    scrobbling works for me now!

Maybe this was obvious to a lot of people, but all I had to do was go to the 'Tools' menu and turn on 'Enable Scrobbling.' I wasn't even aware that this feature existed. Anyway, I'm all set now.

  • I just tried one playing through mediamonkey (which uses the winAmp plugin) and it worked fine, but iTunes is just cache-ing them in the last.fm player, which says that it cannot connect to the submissions server. im going to jam more into the cue and hope the dam bursts.

holy crap jaguar6, that was my issue too. I have the same OS as you so it's probably related, because all of a sudden one day my scrobbling stopped working. It never occurred to me it suddenly was not enabled. >_>

    thanks jaguar6!
