    thanks.

    Its under the help tab

  • thanks
I found the diagnostic and I press scrobble Ipod but there is nothing happening! is it something about the two options ; I manually manage my ipod or Itunes automatically mange my ipod? because it sets on the second one I mean automatically... I changed it to manually and disconnect my ipod listened to two tracks and connected it again but still nothing happened!

    any suggestion?

fattybumbum and Nirvananana are you aware that your iTunes software is not up to date to the latest version (8.0.1)?
Nirvananana you should update the last.fm client too, latest version is here.

i update the client ,and it doesn't work neither.Still i get the response saying that "Failed to read current itunes track. Either something went wrong or the track was not found despite it being in the itunes library " in diagnostic. And the log shows COM error or someting.
what i am supposed to do?

  • I've updated iTunes and tried to force scrobling, but nothing works. When I force the scrobbling nothing happens, no errors, just nothing :/

  • @sponger01 is the way iTunes works, it will not indexed your listenings if the tracks on your iPod aren't located it its music library.
Same thing for Nirvananana if the tracks you are listening on your iPods are not stored in iTunes too.

@roozbeh82 and fattybumbum so yours iPods are not even listed in the options dialogue under the iPod tab?
Anyway roozbeh82 you should be aware of how your iPod is managed by iTunes and just choice accordingly.

  • ^No, my iPod ins't listed under the iPod tab. I've re-installed both iTunes and the last.fm client several times, but last.fm just won't recognise my iPod

  • @roozbeh82 and fattybumbum so yours iPods are not even listed in the options dialogue under the iPod tab?

    Hi

Actually my ipod is under the manually managed option in the itunes. But every time I open the diagnostic the ipod is under Itunes automatically manages ipod. I'm confused.

Could any body guide me step by step.

    Thanks

  • for me it worked when i opened itunes by plugging in my ipod

  • I found out something else; under the scrobble directories my ipod doesn't exist... is this the issue?

@hutmahbut that "failed to get hold of itunes instance via COM" seem related to something breaking in iTunes when upgrading from one vesion to another. Removing iTunes and do a fresh reinstall should work. Just remind to shut down the last.fm client while performing this operation.
If this doesn't fix then restore the iPod may help, but before you need to have a clean iTunes installation.

Thanks for giving the topic, going to try this now :)

Edit: didnt work, but when Im looking by 'known ipods' its saying diagnostics unknown with my username after it. and there's another [good i guess?] device called iPod/000A27001AA3EA9E but there's no username behind it =/

is it the new itunes that works in that way? because before i update iTunes, i do could scrobble my ipod. If i reinstall a low version itunes, wil it fix the problem? What else can i do? thanks a lot!

This is the way Ive always managed by iPod - I have ~ 40G of music on my iPod and ~5G on my iTunes and Ive scrobbled over 10000 tracks, mostly from my iPod - is this something new?

  • Scrobbling problem solved by restore iPod software

Hi all - my iPod Shuffle is now scrobbling successfully. After reinstalling Last.FM twice and numerous restarts, I finally succeeded by doing a full Restore to Factory on the iPod Shuffle.

What had happened was that I had recently re-homed the iPod from one PC to another and it as syncing library OK but after playing songs away from my PC, on re-docking iTunes was not updating the Last Played column (and Last.FM was not finding any new scrobbles).

In iTunes I performed a Restore under Settings, which completely reinstalled the iPod s/w, and all is now fine.

Running iPod software 1.0.4 as before.

Hope this helps anyone in a similar position.

    Regards
    John

  • @roozbeh82 don't bother about scrobble directioriesm that's not relevant for iPod scrobbling. From the diagnostic scrobbling iPod dialogue you have to select the way your iPod is managed. Just pick "manually" from the dropdown menu and try to force the scrobble.

@SecretMuffin that seem some mess inherited from some previous installation. Just try to clean all the iPods associations: eject the iPod, shut down mediaplayer, clear iPods and then close last.fm client.
Listen a couple of songs from the iPod, plug it again and see if this time it get recognized properly.

@Nirvananana and sponger01: that is the way iTunes always worked, but just to clarify then you are talking about iPods manually managed by iTunes and scrobbles manually forced from diagnostic, is it correct? manual scrobbling is kind of patchy, for certain users never worked whatever they try, though if it was working before for you then we can look is some other kind of issues.

@fattybumbum is you iPod manually managed?

  • ^No, it's automatically managed. I'm going to try the full restore and re-install everything one more time, but if that doesn't work, I'll swtich to iSproggler permanently because it actually works, though that one has issues too :|

EDIT: it's scrobbling now :) I restored my iPod to factory settings, uninstalled iTunes and last.fm, cleared all traces of the two programmes, installed clean versions of both iTunes and last.fm. Last.fm didn't recognise my iPod at first, but this time forcing the scrobbling helped. My iPod is now listed as diagnostic/UNKNOWN, but connected to my username and scrobbling, so I'm assuming that doesn't matter?

  • Have the same problems as @ofdarkskies and the reply for him was: " that error means that your tracks on the iPod are not mirrored in the iTunes default library for some reason. Is that the case?"

Yes, that true (for me it is), how do i get it working than?

Have cleared all songs from my iPod and placed all new songs from my current iTunes library, but it's still not working! Still having the S_False notifications in the diagnostics logs.

    Ipod Scrobbling problems

My ipod stoped scrobling this week, and I need help!!

    Windows XP Profesional SP2
    Itunes 8.0.1
    Last.Fm 1.5.2
    Itunes Plugin 3.0.2
    Ipod Classic 80g

I have run the manually scrobble option and the only thing that happened was the in the iPod tab under options it apears Diagnostic/UNKNOWN

  • Ok, Ill start again, as the S_FALSE this is a red herring I suppose.

My iPod is an 80G Classic software version 1.3
    Lastfm client 1.5.2.38918
    iTunes plugin 3.0.2.0
    iTunes 8.0.1.11
    Windows XP Pro v5.1

Client scrobbles iPod when iPod is being played and is attached to iTunes
Client scobbles iTunes when tracks are played in iTunes
Client erratically scrobbles tracks from iPod when attached to iTunes after a days listening

Checked is it just me, disconnected iPod played a few tracks, reattached iPod, tracks didnt scrobble. Played same tracks with iPod attached, tracks scrobbled.

This issue has only started recently, Ive scrobbled 10000+ tracks, the majority from my manually managed iPod, when my iTunes library has never matched my iPod. Up until a few weeks ago, the lastfm client has not had a problem with this. It appears that for classic iPods, the lastfm client is having problems scrobbling iPods (just trawling through the forum this morning is showing at least 3 other threads with the same problem) with iTunes. The answer people are getting is "this is the way iTunes works", but this isnt the way the iTunes/lastfm client has been working for me for a long time. Im a subscriber, I like to scrobble my stuff, but from what I can see, the current lastfm client is unable to do this

    Any ideas?

  • As mentioned in the FAQs too manual managin is not the suggested method, so if you can please use automatic is definetely more reliable.

This is what you can try, and is meant for all people getting this sort of issues: remove and reinstall iTunes. To be on the safe side while doing this rember to not have any iPod connected, and the last.fm client not running.
If this is not working, try to reset your iPods.

For those who are manually managing their iPods do not bother about the unknown message in diagnostic since is not relevant when you scrobble manually.

  • Uninstalled iTunes and Last.fm client, ccleaned, re-installed iTunes, re-installed last.fm client, Ipod not connected at anytime. no change, no scrobbles

by reset Ipod no you mean restore factory settings - in other words, delete all media off the iPod - that isnt an option, all my music is on my iPod as I manually manage my music

Also did that but still getting the COM error by most of the songs .

  • COM Error

Tried to scrobble manually by pressing the "Scrobble iPod" button.
Got an error for every song I've played on my 30G iPod for the last few weeks.

    The error says:
    081019: 08:44:46 - 00001174 ITunesComWrapper::logComError (590) - L2 COM error: COM couldn't get path for ______________ Result code: S_False

    Can anyone help???

    Already did that.
And why isnt it relevant? Cause its still not scrobbling all the songs Ive listened to, not even the half of it.

  • Is not relevant because manually managed iPods do not need to be recognized automatically...for the exact reason that they're going to be manually synced.

The fact that you are getting the "file path" error only for some tracks still points to the fact that this is a library issue.
Where are located the tracks you can't scrobble? there must me something else to check. For instance if they are on an external drive, it needs to be plugged and fired up before you start synching the iPod.
