Winamp 5.5 Scrobbling Problem

  • heh maybe you guys figured this out before me, but i figured out a loophole, in order to keep scrobolling tracks. i guess what i was doing wrong was setting up a playlist... and having the songs follow one another, they wont scrobble that way. i guess u have to clear the playlist, and then start a new song...

so i guess the thing is, it cant tell when a song is being played one right after another in a playlist.

lets say u just started playing a new song, and while its scrobling, you move to another in the playlist, last.fm will continue to scroll the first one...until its done, or until the song right after finishes, which ever happens first...

must be a media library plug-in causing incompatibility with the latest winamp scrobbling plug in.

There's some incompatibility somewhere, because the last.fm client didn't act this way with winamp 5.35 though it did have it's moments of not scrobbling but that was usually a server issue each time I think.

Passion just doesn't happen, you make it grow.
  • Just got my new Winamp version and I have the same bug :\ late scrobbling and lost scrobbling.

  • im suffering from the same problem. updated to Winamp 5.5 PRO from 5.0

    using the Big Bento skin

    system spec
    Windows XP SP 2 (updated)
    AMD Athlon 64bit processor 3000+
    1 gig ram

ps: i also bought WindowBlinds 6 couple of days ago ... i think it has nothing to do with the issue.

bottom line is we need an update from Winamp or Last.fm guys ... a plugin update will do.

    waiting patiently :)

    Ditto

I'm having the same issues - installed the 5.5 update last night only used winamp this morning and the issues where there from the off

  • Windows Vista Ultimate (32 Bit)
    Intel Core 2 Duo 6600
    4 GB RAM
    last.fm Client 1.3.2.13
    Winamp plugin 2.0.45 (ML)

No change when switching skins. I did install a beta of Winamp 5.5 but went back to 5.35.

    Ciao,
    Elwood

  • For all the "Me too"-shouters:
DoctorO knows a bit more of winamp then most of combined. It is rather obvious that there seems to be a problem with the new version... Shouting 'me too' is not the most constructive of replies when someone is trying to piece together what is happening ;)
Especially not when he requests this:all i ask is that those experiencing the issue, can you confirm system specs and what skin (or skins) you've tried winamp with and whether scrobbling works or not plus how you're monitoring that scrobbling is working

    Thanks

    Hi,

I just installed the new Winamp 5.5 and there seems to be a problem using it with the last.fm client. When I start playing MP3 files from a playlist, the last.fm client shows the first file and scrobbles it but when the next file starts the client still displays the first file (it stays there for the entire playlist). Does anybody else has this problem?

Additionally, the last.fm installer still doesn't recognize a Winamp installation in a non-standard installation directory (like d:\tools\winamp), you have to add Winamp manually to your media player list so the installer can download the appropriate plug-in.

for me I was able to "fix" the problem accidently. I switched from the new bento skin back to the classic skin and it worked (for 5 tracks in a row) however testing shows that it doesn't work for modern skin either (only the 1st track played is scrobbled)

  • I'll throw my voice in, and say I'm having the problem as well. Using Winamp 5.5 (with the SimplicityClear custom skin, although Bento and Modern had the same problem too) and the newest last.fm client.

I was previously using one of the beta versions (can't remember which, though) and that had no problem scrobbling tracks.

I uninstalled WinAmp and the client, ran ccleaner to erase the assorted registry entries and leftover files, restarted the computer, ran ccleaner again and installed WinAmp, followed by the client.

It seems to be scrobbling the first track, but nothing after that. I also noticed that, if you skip ahead a track or two immediately after the first track begins playing, it still scrobbles only the first track. I've been checking the last.fm client, as well as looking at my profile page to see if they scrobble.

System specs: Intel Core 2 Duo 6400, 2gb RAM.

Sorry to have hurted the ears of some people when just wanting to add a "+1"...

Windows Vista Home Premium. It seems that the problem of scrobbling occurs when my computer is "idle".

  • Well, I don't know what's happened but it's been scrobbling. The last two albums I listened to have shown up in my recently played list. (Both Fear Factory albums)

The second album ended while I was typing, so I waited a few seconds and it hasn't registered the new album. (Fuck...I'm Dead) Hope that helps.

  • +1

    Windows XP SP2
    Last.fm 1.3.2.13
    Winamp 5.5 final (fresh install)
    Winamp plugin 2.0.45
    Winamp Classic skin

The Last.fm client stopped working correctly since the Winamp 5.5 betas. No problem with 5.35. Double-clicking on a file works ok (most of the time), but many files in the playlist will be ignored (the client will just sit there with the message "Ryusennin is logged in").

Besides, I noticed that the client itself takes forever to start automatically through Winamp (up to one minute sometimes; it runs in a few seconds with 5.35).

  • Yup - same problem here:

    Formatted HDD
    Brand new XP sp2 install
    Winamp 5.5 (classic skin)
    Latest Last FM (1.3.2.13)

It scrobbles 1st track & then hangs until a random track (lastfm not winamp). Didn't happen on previous winamp/Last FM version combos

Hey guys I'm having the same issue here, currently experiencing the issue using Winamp 5.5 with the Big Bento skin on a Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit.

Any news on when the issue could be resolved?

  • temporary: solution / problem: crossfading

    it's quite simple

... switch off track crossfading (set to 0 sec). you can find the setting on top of the equalizer bars. now the current plugin will be able to recognize the triggered track-change and scrobble the next track.

    works @ winamp 5.5 bento-skin / last.fm software 1.3.2.13 / last.fm plugin 2.0.45.0 / winxp sp2

EDIT: damn... only works sometimes... no idea why. all tracks contain id3v2 and v1.1. i don't think that changing the skin has any influence

    cheerio!

thanks for the posts so far, i'm running through a few things that i can try on my end to try and repro the issue based on what seems to be the general case from people's system specs, etc. but will be looking into this properly over the weekend when i've got a bit more free time (i can't sit around listening to music all day, heh ;o) )

    [edit]
it looks like i've been hit by the issue (had left winamp using the bento skin in the background as a non-focused app though it took around 10 tracks before it happened) so that gives me something better to test out with now - still a bit confused why this is all happening unless it's the modern skin message pump at fault...

    [edit2]
once the issue appears, i waited a few more tracks to see what was going on and it displayed Playback State Playing (Invalid - Failed to calculate goal) [-1] which i've never seen before.

looks like i'm going to have a fun weekend, lol

  • i've solved the problem by changing my skin to classic or another modern skin (I use EMP) ... it works now (so far).

the issue seems to be Bento or Big Bento.

I had the same bug with a classic skin so I don't think it has anything to do with the skins.
(but I have to admit that i'm using the old 1.1.10 plugin because I'm not that fond of a client that has to run in the background).
The only solution I found was switching back to winamp 5.35, although thats more a workaround then a solution.

I think that the plugin just doesn't recognise when a song is changed (so that they have changed a bit in that code or something).

  • Same problem
    xpsp2
    winamp 5.5 (x86)
    Last.fm 1.3.2.13 (winamp plug-in 2.0.45.0 ml_...)

First song played always works. Then it's kind of random. The bug is there when i use the modern skin and bento - not classic.

Everything seems to work just fine whenever i play songs added to media library just after i installed winamp with the "add media to library" button

Also if i stop the music, for a minute or so, then the first song played works again.

from what i'm seeing, as soon as you refocus winamp then it'll pick up the track/next track (depending on where you are in the currently playing track and the submission cut-off).

anyway i can repro the issue (though it seems to take around 10 tracks with winamp minimised/unfocused for the issue to appear for me (so it's going to take a little while to get my test code seeing what is actually happening). so a bit of patience please on this one (and thanks again for reports)

I have exact the same problem as the topicstarter.
And I have a clean install of Winamp 5.5 Pro. And the latest last.fm plug-in from this website.
    Any solutions yet?
