iTunes freezes on shutdown caused by the scrobbler

I have recently bought a new laptop and after transferring all my music over and setting up iTunes and Last.fm I started having problems, as when I close down, iTunes freezes and I have to close down through Task Manager and when I open up iTunes again, all the music I recently listened to has not been saved. I have uninstalled the scrobbler and the problem has stopped, so obviously that is what is causing the problem. Is there any fix to this problem?

I'm on Windows 7 (64-bit) and using all the latest programs.
