List of musicians/songs used on Gitmo detainees has been released

Agency names 35 artists, songs used on U.S. military terror suspects

A Freedom of Information Act request filed on Thursday names 35
musicians or songs that it said were used against detainees at U.S. military
detention centers, including the one at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
The National Security Archive -- the Washington-based independent
research institute that filed the request -- said the documents it is seeking
"contain explicit references to the following bands or songs":

    -- AC/DC
    -- Aerosmith
-- Barney theme song (By Bob Singleton)
    -- The Bee Gees
    -- Britney Spears
    -- Bruce Springsteen
    -- Christina Aguilera
    -- David Gray
    -- Deicide
    -- Don McClean
    -- Dope
    -- Dr. Dre
    -- Drowning Pool
    -- Eminem
    -- Hed P.E.
    -- James Taylor
    -- Limp Bizkit
    -- Marilyn Manson
    -- Matchbox Twenty
    -- Meatloaf
    -- Meow mix jingle
    -- Metallica
    -- Neil Diamond
    -- Nine Inch Nails
    -- Pink
    -- Prince
    -- Queen
    -- Rage against the Machine
    -- Red Hot Chili Peppers
    -- Redman
    -- Saliva
-- Sesame street theme music (By Christopher Cerf)
    -- Stanley Brothers
    -- The Star Spangled Banner
    -- Tupac Shakur

Source; Link to .PDF with that text is in the fifth paragraph.

So, anyone else find it ironic they're using Rage Against the Machine as torture? I mean, then again, if you're playing it loudly and repetitively, it must be effective.

Edit: Title changed so it sounds more like news.

  • Awesome bro. Next time, take five fucking seconds to search for existing topics.

    Say what again.

awesome. nine on that list are on my last.fm charts.

  • I see why they used that music because most of those artists are talentless (Britney Spears, Eminem) or plain shitty (Limp Bizkit, Drowning Pool)

This would have been a great thread had there been only one version.
Now I feel I can't propogate one instead of the others.
    Oh shit..

    LOL
It took 5 seconds for me to catch both of those links. To be fair celexicdream did post this first; who really cares though. 98% of that list if crap, what other kind of music did you think they would use for torture? Britney Spears shoulda been on the top of that list; id shoot by brains out.

  • Haha. Tupac.

lol'ed. some of the artists on that list are quite awesome.

It's known the Dutch commando's are forced to listen to very loud Dope music when they are trained in urban combat and resolving hostage situations. The trick they need to learn is not to get distracted.

If they knew the first thing about torture, they would've used some Will Smith!

I can understand how American Pie could be considered torture.

you would have thought it would all just be extreme metal of various flavours.

If they really wanted to make them suffer they'd have used the Madonna version of American Pie.

I can see why they would use every single one of these artists.

If you think Sonic Youth is cool, and you think that they think that you're not that cool, does that mean everything to you?

  • Don't they take just one part of the track and play it over and over on repeat until the suspect eventually begs for it to stop? Apparently it can drive you completely mental, especially if you already know the song, waiting for the next part. I read that in David Grays case they just played the word "Babylon" over and over for hours.

If you mean that you think that all these artists are shit then you're just plain wrong. I hope you don't.

I'd heard that too...it wouldn't take long to turn me into a gibbering wreck by doing that!

I wonder if this could be used in the future to get some of the artists banned under the Geneva Conventions...

Yeah, I would have thought that too since it would probably be the most shocking.

I can understand the reason for using most of those artists, but Neil Diamond? Many people might find him boring, but it hardly seems like he would have shock value.

  • the most effective musical torture ever:

    (8) lollypop lollypop oh -~- (record scratching noise)
    (8) lollypop lollypop oh -~- (record scratching noise)

that would be my idea of hell .. mix it up a bit but never let the song hit the last note before it repeats .. and the tune/song is already as annoying as it gets

Tragic... If only these people had been John Zorn fans, terrorism would be over by now...

  • This reminds me of the scene in A Clockwork Orange

They make hm aversive to his favourite - Beethoven

That would be torture, to be tortured by your favourite music.

I can see how hearing "BACK IN BLAAAACK! BACK IN BLAAAACK! BACK IN BLAAAAAACK!" for hours would be excruciating.
